This is a delightful resort of light colored houses with flower-filled balconies and a maze of narrow streets that wind around a steep hillside.

Praiano is a small, laidback seaside resort between the larger and busier Positano and Amalfi. Nestled at the foot of the Tre Pizzi Mountain, Praiano charms with its picture postcard layout typical of villages along the Amalfi Coast.

The resort was once the summer residence of the powerful Doges, the dukes of the Maritime Republic of Amalfi. They came for the same reason that visitors still come today: the calm waters of the Mediterranean and the exceptional views.

The small pebble beach of Marina di Praia is one of Praiano’s most popular attractions. Unwind by the water’s edge or rent some diving gear and explore Amalfi’s marine life. Diving is a year-round activity here and a dive centre is situated by the beach. Come back to the beach in the evening for a sunset walk and a meal in one of the restaurants or bars that line the sand.

Sightseeing centres around Praiano’s churches. Investigate the Church of San Luca Evangelista. The building is one of the most important places of worship in Praiano, as Saint Luke is its patron saint. The baroque-style edifice we see today was built in 1588, although the original church dates back to the early 12th century. Go inside to appreciate the 18th century majolica floor, marble altars and silver bust of Saint Luke. The church and convent of Santa Maria a Castro sits on a hill 1,194 feet (364 metres) above sea level and is famous for the views and the large, well-preserved 15th century fresco Madonna delle Grazie (The Madonna of Thanks).

Scout out one of Praiano’s other major historic sights, the Torre a Mare. The medieval structure was part of a series of fortified towers along the coast that helped defend against pirate attacks.

Praiano is approximately 4.6 miles (7 kilometres) from Positano and 3.1 miles (6 kilometres) from Amalfi. It is well connected by bus and ferries to Sorrento, Positano and Amalfi. If you are staying in Praiano ask your hotel manager about the Praiano Card. The Tourist Card offers many discounts on goods and services in the village, including savings in some restaurants.

Small village with a beautiful church and perfect square to watch sun set, hidden beaches!

Praiano was nice, quiet and quite central to the other towns :) It was a little quiet when fancying a drink, and found the area more for couples than friends travelling together. As with the whole coastline (and understandably) parking is all charge

5/5 - Excellent

Praiano is a quiet more accessible version of Positano. It is much cheaper for accommodation and doesn't feel so overrun with tourists. Given how easy and cheap it is to get from Praiano to Positano, more people should stay here.

Quiet and beautiful spot on the Amalfi coast

A lot of vertiginous climbs, steep with lots of steps so not ideal for the less sure of foot but the views were great once got breath back!

There are multiple dining options for evening meals. If you fancy pizza, pasta or fresh seafood it’s the perfect location with most of the Restaurants having great views to enjoy. Walking around is the best way to see Praiano but is hilly.
