"The property is rustic, but the rooms are spacious and well maintained. The mini refrigerator was a great size and perfect for keeping snacks and food for our daily trips around Death Valley. The bed was comfortable, and I’m usually quite picky about beds.
Unfortunately, our timing was not ideal, as the hotel had a scheduled 12-hour power outage from 4:00 a.m. to about 4:00 p.m. on March 10. During that time, there was no electricity or Wi-Fi in the rooms, although Wi-Fi was available at the registration office. They schedule maintenance outages two or three times a year, so it may be worth checking ahead before reserving.
That said, we were grateful for the convenience of staying inside the park and for the beautiful views of the Mesquite Dunes. We would definitely come back!"
"The location was good and the room was clean and the front desk staff that checked us in were very nice. That’s the only good things I can say. Our room was as bright as the sun when the lights were turned off as it faced north with a parking lot and no blackout curtains. We were on the first floor and there is no sound proofing between floors. We heard every footstep from the second floor. It was so noisy. The upstairs room woke up at 3:30 am. Two people took showers and the noise from the showers sounded like a tornado going through the hotel. I’m not making this up. Also the wind was blowing outside and the windows and doors aren’t properly weatherstripped and it whistles like a train non-stop.
If you just need a place to shower, this motel is ok. But if you want a restful night sleep, I don’t recommend it. "
Desert Retreat-Charming 2-bedroom house with a View
10/10 Excellent
"We had a great stay at the Desert Retreat. So very quiet and comfortable - beds were just right and communication with the host went smootly. The perfect place to unwind after a busy day in Death Valley. We like to cook and found all we needed to prepare meals and the outdoor grill was perfect. We travel to DV often and will book again on our next visit."
"The host was great and very welcoming. Went above and beyond to help us out by making us some food because we were arriving late at night. Even the breakfast was delicious. Gave us a b&b feel. The second bedroom did not have a shower even though listing said otherwise but it wasn't a big deal. It was a great experience and had a lot of fun talking to Sunny! Will definitely go back there!"
Stunning New House by Death Valley, Amazing Views!
10/10 Excellent
"The place is beautiful! We didn’t need a thing, kitchen had all the dishes etc that you’d need, the bathroom was gorgeous, and the beds super comfortable! It has heat and air (we needed heat because we were vacationing during cold spell). Being able to do a load of laundry after being on the road so long was a bonus also. We saw beautiful sunrises and sunsets from the patio and a night sky that was just stunning. Such a cool place! Super quiet too. I’d definitely go back. A good location if you’re visiting Death Valley near the Nevada side. "
