We don’t usually leave reviews, but we felt compelled to for this property to give some friendly advice from one rental property owner to another.
Good Points: house/kitchen is well-stocked (pots/pans need replacing but okay to use). Provided basic spices, oils and condiments. Owner was responsive and even nice enough to have her manager stop by with extra dishwasher pods so we didn’t have to buy a whole box. Location is nice, in a quiet neighborhood with wild turkeys and deer wandering about. The issues below can be easily and inexpensively remedied. As rental property owners, we have learned that the more bullet-proof one can make the property, the better the rental experience will be for all involved.
Entrance: The steps leading up to the front door were coated with about an inch-thick layer of ice. This is not only dangerous, but a major liability. This is easily fixed with some sand and rock-salt. The door has a keyless entry however we spent 15 min in 10-degree temps trying to open the door. After several attempts we figured out that we had to pull up and out on the door to get it to open. Every time we left the home, we struggled to both lock and unlock the door. After calling the owner we were informed that indeed the door had to be pushed/pulled in a weird way to open/close. The hinges clearly need to be adjusted – again, an easy fix.
WiFi/Internet: The house is listed as having reliable internet, but we never got it to work. We called the owner after trying to connect a variety of different devices. The owner suggested unplugging their Alexa puck and rebooting the router, neither of which helped. The owner’s final suggestion was that we drive to the nearest Starbucks and work from there…which is unreasonable given that we are paying for a property with internet. This was incredibly aggravating as we had rented the property for six nights. Our child needed to be online for school and my husband and I needed to check-in for work. We ended up having to leave early and forfeit two days with our friends because we couldn’t get online. If the property doesn’t have reliable internet, this should be made abundantly clear on the listing.
Basic Maintenance/Bulletproofing: There are pictures hanging low on most every wall and there are knick-knacks on every flat surface. This is just asking for trouble/damage. Example - ceramic towel holder set on the edge of a small bathroom counter with two towels on it. When one towel
