The Grand Hotel

10/10 Excellent
"The staff at this property were incredibly helpful and friendly, which really added to our stay. The breakfast selection was great and the food in the restaurant in the evening was delicious. We really enjoyed the outdoor pool and were grateful for the use of hotel towels. The only thing that let the hotel down, was the cleanliness and maintenance of the outdoor/pool area. We were there for around 5 hours and at no point did anyone come round to collect used glasses/table wear or remove old towels left by guests. The pool was also pretty grubby, but still a godsend given the heatwave. Other than that, we really enjoyed our stay. Our room was clean and well maintained and we had everything we needed for a great stay with two kids."

The Devon Hotel

The Devon Hotel

8/10 Good
"Driving up to the hotel, it looked disappintingly like a low end budget hotel....i see now why the first image on expedia was of the attached Carriages Restaurant. On this particular visit, the land close by was being developed... cant hear anything, but the view from the room looked out towards the construction site. Carpet along the hallways was dated. Room itself was good but more attention needs to be paid to dusting.. there were threads of spider web in the coffee cups.. Air conditioning worked nicely, beds were clean and comfortable. Room wasnt as spacious as id throught it might have been. Bathroom was well presented...the tap did seem "blocked"... and indeed it was... after several wipes with tissue paper, wiping away gunk that had clogged it up, the tap was flowing nicely... toilet was low profile and clean. The experience with the taps did however make me feel uncomfortable using it. At night, on a clear night, the car park made for an excellent star gazing site."

The Victoria Hotel & Source Spa

"A fantastic traditional hotel, set back from the beach and road, so really quiet. My room was light and airy despite the heat this summer. Super views and lovely pool outdoors. Enjoyed the restaurant for breakfast and one evening meal. Dining is quite formal so visitors need to be aware of that. It is an expensive choice in Sidmouth - but a real treat to stay here."

Southern Cross Guest House

Southern Cross Guest House

10/10 Excellent
"The property is a very old one and hence a bit quirky but that’s fine. My room for instance was small with the sink in the main bedroom whilst the loo and shower were in the en suite but that was fine as I was by myself. The owners had put such thought into meeting my every need which was greatly appreciated- in the bedroom I couldn’t have wanted for anything more. The house has a small parking area and beautiful gardens to sit out in. Breakfast is individually coked and catered for too. The only drawback I think is the stairs leading to the bedrooms are very steep with small foot treads, the bottom ones particularly are uneven in depth and slope. However they are heavily carpeted and there are rails. It’s a very old loved property."
