“As many reviews have stated, the hotel is dated and definitely beyond its prime. The location is nice and close to Angra, the breakfast buffet is okay, the pool is nice for families (not ideal for a couple or romantic getaway), and the views are great. The hotel needs upgrades and quite literally has a "if you need repairs, call this number" in the bathroom, yikes. Our room smelled of smoke everyday from the nextdoor neighbors and it radiated through the vents. The hallway and stairwell is……

“Rooms are comfortable and stuffed with needful things like fridge and television. The bathroom is a bit tiny and the bath/shower itself is vintage but usable. The personal especially at the reception desk is very helpful and friendly. Going to the breakfast, it is split in two stations - left is the fruit and cereal corner and right is the rest like intercontinental breakfast. The food is very fresh and breakfast time is as normal. The location of this nice hotel is perfect, you can walk all……

“Property was purchased by another hotel vendor who also owns Praia Marina Hotel. Upon arrival at Varandas, there is no one there at the reception. You have to walk over to Praia Marina to speak to them, then come back wait for someone to come over to check you in. If you are an elderly person or handicap this is a huge problem. Then on the evening prior to leaving, we went over to Praia Marina because no one was at Varandas, so that we could set up for a taxi to pick us up the following……

“This is the BEST hotel I’ve ever stayed at in Terceira and I’ve been visiting family there for 50+ years. The views are astounding, the salt water pool is clean and relaxing, the fellow guests are interesting and kind, and the staff are incredible. Diana and Tomas made us feel so welcome and were so helpful while we were there. The mattress and bathroom were so comfy and modern we felt comfortable and happy to spend nights in at times.
