"This was the main hotel option for the area without breaking the bank - my expectations weren't that high but definitely surpassed. The staff were friendly enough although only really met them at checkin and out. Access was a bit ambiguous on arrival - I left my luggage in the carpark while I climbed the steep stairs to see where the reception was. There wasn't a step-free access to the rooms but there was a slightly better route for me to take to minimise the climb with bags. The walk up the hill from the station wasn't too far but was at an incline so worth a mention for those for whom this might be an issue and prefer to get a taxi. The building has quite a stark external appearance that is a bit reminiscent of a prison but very functional. The rooms have oldish furniture but very serviceable and everything you might need is there and clean. For the price and location it's amazing!!! I definitely appreciated having a break on stretching my budget as a solo traveller in comfort and well situated to catch the ferry to Cat Island and explore the town, including the poignant school ruins following the tsunami of 2011. The anime museum was closed at the time I was there but hadn't realised it was there anyway - would have explored had it been open as there were many characters around the town that gave a special vibe to the place that I was fond of. I thoroughly recommend this hotel for a short stay - it will meet all your basic needs. "

"room was well kept, staff was very helpful and respectful, even with language barrier everything was understandable. Buffet and onsens were great."

"The whole place is old, dated and needs some refurbishment & cleanup. The guests are asked to take off their footwear when coming in and use provided & used theirs instead, supposedly to keep the floors spotless. But the carpeted floors look worn out, with long large dark patches everywhere. The same footwear can be used on the outside balconies which have dust & dirt. Moreover, the decor is ghastly with plastic plants & flowers everywhere, brown carpet, dark wall, cheap small lightings. The breakfast are monotonous, mostly unchanged during our 3 morning visits, hardly edible. Dinners are much the same with unexcited menus. This is made worse as there is not many restaurants in the town that are open after 5pm. We were attracted to the town due to the travel blurbs that it is one of the top places to visit in Japan. This may be true only for the shrines and scenic places, but definitely not with the supporting eateries. The only good points about the accommodation (definitely not 'resort' as in the name) are the friendly staff and the children playpen in the common area."

"The property has a pretty environment and has a nice view of the Matsushima bay area. It offers tasty meals with a good variety of food and beverages. Unfortunately the room that I was assigned, while has a nice view, is right next to the railway tracks with trains frequently passing. No information about the railway tracks were provided in the process of booking online, I believe Expedia should alert customers to state clearly their request for a quiet room away from the railway. The property should also consider installing double glazed windows for the rooms affected. Should I be staying for more than one night, I would request a change of rooms."
