The Island Neighborhood
The Island community is the largest urban car-free community in North America. Kids and adults of all ages can find something to do on the island. For those that like to be active, there are swimming beaches, biking trails, tennis courts. Water lovers can enjoy canoeing, kayaking and paddle-boarding around the islands, or sailing and other boat activities in Lake Ontario. Nature fans will love the peaceful lagoons where wildlife flourishes including turtles, fish, swans, and many other rare birds (as there is a bird sanctuary close by). For young children, Centreville on Centre Island is a fun amusement park with roller-coasters, water rides and a petting zoo.
From the house one can walk to the ferry in 7 minutes, to the beach in 3 minutes, to the island café in 4 minutes, to the Riviera restaurant and patio in 8 minutes, and to Center Island in 38 minutes.
The ferry ride is 10 minutes to and from the city, and from the city ferry terminal one can walk to Union Station in 16 minutes, to the CN Tower in 21 minutes, to the Convention Center in 22 minutes, to the Rogers Center in 23 minutes, to the St. Lawrence market in 23 minutes, to Eaton’s Center in 28 minutes, and to the Distillery in 30 minutes.
