Surprisingly the sand wasn't as difficult to traverse as I would have imagined. Perhaps because it wasn't blistering hot the day I visited and the slight drizzle compacted them. It's one of the most scenic and romantic area for those who like to take walks near the sea! It's also a huge area (30 sq km) and the only large sand dunes in Japan.

While for many Americans it's been Visit Cuba year, for many Asians it is Visit Japan year as the Japanese ¥ drops to historical low against many currencies.

For me, it's 3rd visit to Japan this year since Spring! This time I ventured to Tottori, some 90+ minutes away by Super Hakuto train from Himeji. It is the first "desert" I visited in Japan and it is one that's just next to the Japan Sea! Making it a most interesting experience.
