Long weekend

It was a very spacious place. Everything we needed. Did expect a hot tub from the listing. Window coverings in the bedrooms would be nice to keep the sun out in the morning

Clean property and great location

The house is very clean and well maintained, it has spacious room and cozy living room. The location is great, super close to the town center with grocery store and restaurant.

Overall the Bears Lair was awesome for our 2nd annual family trip. The house was clean and had everything we needed to have home cooked meals after long days out hiking, swimming, and walking around town. There's a grill on the back deck, along with a table and chairs to enjoy the weather and the beauty that surrounds the home. The only thing that I would recommend is for some of the mattresses to be replaced. They were bowed in from all the use. Thankfully, we had some blowup mattresses with us to compensate for that. All in all, we would stay here again and we highly recommend it.

Great home for large group

Over all the home is great for a large family gathering. The kitchen was fully stocked with all the cooking ware. I would stay hear again. The bed and pillows were not great . They do need to spend a little money and buy new ones. Along with some mattresses topper for comfort. Linen was not of the best quality. For a home of this point Price it should be better.

Great family stay

We visited for the snow! It was a great place for big families! Had a ton of sleeping arrangements as well as blankets. Kitchen was beautiful. Had everything needed to cook our meals. House was cozy and a lot of room to sprawl out. Bathrooms are beautiful as well. Although there wasn't enough wash rags or towels, but that's an easy fix. We hope to come back again!

Mental HealthReset

We decided to take our teens out of town to do 'school', as a change of scenery was desperately needed for eveyone's mental health, and the Bears Lair did not disappoint. This house is very spacious - can accommodate a few families. We were just 4 + a dog and had plenty of space to spread out, do school and work and not feel on top of each other. It seems as though the house is steadily being remodeled room by room and both old and new are comfortable and accommodating. A newer bathroom has an awesome tub that was a delight to relax in. The house is off the main roads of Donner and backs up to one of the trails for off road hiking and exploring. Initially we had some miscommunication regarding connectivity and as we arrived experienced very slow and spotty wifi. Knowing we were going to need great connectivity for 3 people to be working simultaneously, we had asked about this before renting and were told they (management company) had never had any complaints. As we were driving to Donner, we received opening instructions and a message that wifi was limited and spotty. PANIC. However, this was remedied fairly quickly with a call to the management company and speed/bandwidth was increased to the house. So with the improved wifi, a purchased HotSpot, and one teen directly connected to the router, everyone was able to get their work done. Suggestions for things to bring: Seasonings - no salt/pepper, since eating in or ordering in is the way to go right now, be sure to bring either containers, plastic wrap, or foil to wrap and cook with. Other than that the kitchen was well stocked with plates, utensils, pots/pan, cutting boards etc. I noticed a previous review that complained of dirty dishes and the complaint was directed toward the management company. We did not experience any dirty dishes upon arrival, but did notice the dishwasher did not do a great job - food remnants left after going through a full cycle. So be sure to thoroughly rinse dishes before placing in the dishwasher. Also, there was enough dishwasher soap to do 1 load - this I will tell the management company, as I feel this is something that should be checked and provided when the house is being cleaned. Overall, a warm and welcoming home to help reset. Would definitely rent again.

It is an older cabin. But it did accommodate 13 people and 2 large dogs.

Our experience was overall good. Except the one day of the smoke detectors were going off and on all day. So it was a one day wasted of vacation cause it took a long time to figure how to stop it. Woke us up at 12 midnight. We were not happy. They did compensate us for that day.

Wonderful Getaway

I was a little apprehensive about reserving this house because of some mixed reviews, but it turned out that our stay was really wonderful. We organized a combination family reunion and quiet retreat, and this home fit perfectly. The house was aesthetic, spacious, fresh and clean. I'll share that I, myself, live in a home that is VERY nice, so I've become hard to please when staying elsewhere, and always know that there is a risk of being disappointed. I had no complaints about this home at all! We cooked full and delicious meals, cozied up by the woodstove, did yoga in the living room, and played games until the wee hours of the morning on New Years. A walk around the neighborhood was very pleasant and safe, and you can even snowshoe in the woods right behind the house. Close to the recreation center and not far from town. I would surely stay here again. Enjoy!

Big house but very dated

We stayed at this property over Labor Day Weekend and overall were disappointed with the cost versus the amenities of the property. A lot of the rugs and chairs were flat out filthy, plus the utensils had old food on them and the fridge was dirty. Given that we paid so much per night, I would have expected a cleanlier stay. It’s too bad too because the location is great and the house is huge. With just a few thousand in upgrades, this place could be awesome but I wouldn’t stay here again in the current condition.

Fell extremely short of expectations

The house was not ready for us. There were dirty towels still needing washing. In the bathrooms: no hand soap, no backup toilet paper, no shower gels, hair products. Kitchen: no salt/pepper/oil (basic cooking ingredients), no extra garbage bags, no backup paper towels, a broken and dirty coffee maker with the wrong shaped filters, no napkins, a wobbly sink faucet, only two of four burners on the stovetop were working, a frying pan with a broken handle. Upstairs master bedroom: a leaky shower that splattered into the bathroom. Lots of cobwebs throughout the house. There were no instructions on how to get to the pool/spa, no general instructions or welcome to the house. Rentals should be clean and all areas should be ready for use. I wonder if this rental was prepped for our stay.

Beautiful mountain house perfect for groups and families with kids.

I recently stayed here with several other couples and families. It was perfect. Nice rooms, plenty of space, great kitchen for cooking and eating group meals. We definitely want to stay here again.

great place for large groups

This rental was a getaway for my daughters 3rd birthday. The cabin was spacious and accommodated our large party perfectly. The kitchen was stock with all the pots, pans, baking items, etc we needed to cook up a feast for our group. Everyone loved the open and large living/dining area. There were some cons with the property: many complained about the lack of warm water in the upstairs main shower and main floor shower in the guest room. The heater in the lower level room felt like it never shut off when set to a specific temperature. My guest also complained about the mattress being very uncomfortable. Overall the rental was great, I love the large space. This property would be so much better if the owner upgraded or replace the bedroom mattress/furniture.

Nice and big

We stay for 2 night. The house is big and so many room. Even though speaker on the tv doesn't work. We have fun in the backyard to play snowball. Over all, we did have great time.

House needs work

It looks like a nice house but there are a few problems that would make me look elsewhere next time. One shower is not usable - water leaks thru the kitchen ceiling when the upstairs shower is turned on. The downstairs shows has extremely low water pressure - imagine trying to rinse with a dollar store squirt gun. Lots of light bulbs were out - apparently a common problem which means there are electrical issues. And the beds are just about the worst you can imagine. One part of our group left after one night because of the beds. After reporting issues to the management co, I got a whopping $50 refund. Two stars because if these issues were resolved, I could see this as a great place to stay

Property was not cleaned & ready for occupancy at 4pm. One shower OUT; heating malfunctioned.

The property is OK, but only 2 showers were working. The thermostat was erratic. Getting assistance was horrible. I will not recommend this place unless they improve the BA, heating, elec. outlets, TV in BR, & more chairs in DR & in 2 BRs.

nice big home cabin quit plesent kid friendly !!!

Kitchen had about everything you'll need for your stay only thing I have negative to say is that it is very dusty lots of spiders and spider webs Internet was good had no problems just wish the house had better cleaning care e had any amazing time there !!!!we could just spot about everything that need to get clean walls were dirty edges around bedrooms had trash around them and there is no curtains in the bedrooms nice view but curtains would be nice ...thank you

Spacious, home like & very comfortable

We're a family of 13, had a great time here & enjoyed staying at bears lair!! Upon arrival We were all very pleasantly surprised w/ how spacious it is here - the bedrooms are large enough that we were able to include air mattresses (families wanted to stay together) cousins were good w/ not sharing a room together which it all worked out! This particular residence is a great place to stay for family size of 13 & a a dog!!! There were quite a few bugs - part of Tahoe culture (small insects that gravitate towards light), cob webs along inside of Windows but easy to clean/get rid of. Beautiful to see the stars at night which was an added bonus!

Great staycation!

My family had a great time visiting us in Truckee and staying at this large house. It was so big and fit everyone comfortably. We live in Truckee and were surprised there was room for us to stay there also. I would recommend this house to everyone. It has everything you need to make it feel like home.
