The house and grounds are beautiful. Our room was very clean and cozy with the most comfortable bed. The owners are the nicest people and very helpful. Great homemade breakfast. Highly recommend if you’re ever in Vermont.

Located in a charming old house, the grounds are beautiful with chairs, fire pits, lots of trees. The owners did not greet us nor were they on-site when we arrived, but they had tested us codes to get into the house and our room. Something we had never experienced before, but it all worked fine. The only negative was the stairs up to our room was very steep and narrow, so we had to be careful going up or down, especially with heavy suitcases.

We are pleased that our communication leading up to your stay via text allowed you to check yourself in while we were running a few errands. The Orleans room is on the 2nd floor of the orignal section of the house. If you can join us again, we hope you will try a first floor room or maybe a a room on the other side of the house with a larger staircase.

Warm innkeepers, generous with their time and facilities. Comfy Queen Beds, in room a/c, amazing trail across the street, access to swimming in Summer, adorable towns and farmers market... and unbeatable BREAKFAST!!! Heads up some (not all) Rooms are small (did not bother us).

Excellent Bed and Breakfast
The stay at 1824 House was excellent. We arrived outside the typical check-in hours due to long drive time on arrival day. The hosts were flexible and had no problem to accommodate. There was ample parking space. We stayed in the Orleans room which had plenty of room for the two of us and comfortable bed/pillows/blankets. The roofline/windows created some obstacles in the room and a quirky shower which may not be for everyone. The breakfast was fantastic. The "Benedict of the Day" was creative and delicious each day, while the breakfast poutine was my favorite. It's just a short 10 minute drive to Sugarbush main resort. There's also a hiking/walking trailhead that starts across the street.

Donald, thanks for staying with us. We are glad you appreciate our contactless check in which allows for ease of arrival outside of our check in time. The shower in the Orleans is a bit quirky, but the skylight allows a lot of light in and it even opens in the summer! As for the breakfasts, we want to make sure our guests don't go away hungry while they are exploring the valley. Hope you can join us again.

Just not worth the cost
Overall had a good experience at the 1824 House. Great location. Was disappointed that the barn was closed off to guests. Many photos posted online are the barn. Area was clean and comfy bed. Breakfast was average. Very small bathroom with a loud shower that made a constant sound. Just not worth the cost!

Nice place. Nice people. Pleasant breakfast. I have some orthopedic problems so stairs were a little difficult but that is expected in an historic house

Absolutely perfect stay. We were able to walk on the property - down to the river and up to a grassy lawn overlooking the Mad River Valley. Felt totally peaceful and private. The accommodations were beautiful and the food delicious. The hosts were friendly and helpful and everything felt welcoming.

Cute and cozy place, will stay again
Adorable place to stay. Staff was really nice and helpful. Breakfast was fantastic (I especially appreciated the gluten free options! Pancakes were a treat). Room was clean and cozy. The living room was a nice place to spend time and play some games in front of the fireplace. We loved our stay and will happily return for our next ski trip.

1824 House
The 1824 house was absolutely beautiful. The innkeepers were extremely personable and accommodating. The breakfast was delicious and creative. The Orleans room, while lovely had ceilings that dipped so low that we were concerned about getting up during the night. The bathroom was even more difficult to navigate...You could not stand straight up while showering and had to be very careful when getting out of the tub. The stairs leading to the Orleans room were extremely narrow making it difficult to get luggage upstairs. While we highly recommend the inn in general, we would not recommend this room in particular unless you are very strong and young.

We were unable to complete our stay as the innkeeper never appeared. We waited in one of the sitting rooms from 7pm until 9:30pm when we were forced to leave and find accommodations elsewhere before everything was closed. We ended up having to travel 40 miles to find somewhere still open that could take us. We later recieved a text from the innkeeper around 10:30pm when we had already found a room elsewhere. We aren't entirely sure why we were ignored after multiple calls and texts as the innkeeper was on sight in their living area the entire time.

We are very sorry to hear of your experience. While we agree this never should have occurred, please be aware the property is under new ownership since a week after your "reservation". The current ownership has over 20 years of innkeeping experience. We feel very strongly that this would never occur while staying with us. We communicate with our guests prior to arrival via email and text (or phone call if desired) as to ensure this type of incident would never occur. We hope you would give us a try if you come back to the area.

Warm welcome, very clean house, wonderful breakfast! Our room was near the dining room, first floor, so you heard the people, that are not respectful of others.., talking out loud waiting for their breakfast. The air conditioning machine was still in the window with open sides that let the cold gets in the room, it was nearly 5 degrees at night so it was pretty cold in the room... The house is located on a busy street but at night it is quiet. I would recommend the house but not this specific room.

Thank you for your feedback. We are very happy to hear that you felt welcome, found the inn clean and enjoyed your breakfast. Unfortunately we did have a group here during your stay which was gathering for a wedding and they had not been together in a long time, so they did get a bit louder than our usual guests. This past week we had our first freeze, yet temperatures still got into the 70's during the day, so we have had to keep the air conditioners in the rooms to keep all of our guests happy. It is a tough time of year in Vermont regulating the inside temperatures when the outside temperatures can swing 30 degrees or more in a day. We hope you will give us another visit. Thanks
