About this property

Chromocamino · Pool, Hot Tub, Mini Putt, Game Room

  • Summary:

Late afternoon at Chromocamino starts in the original midcentury pool and ends between the hot tub and two fire pits, in the Joshua tree foothills of Yucca Valley, a short drive from Pappy and Harriet's. Sink a putt, swing in a hammock, then take on Mrs. Pac-Man and the pool table in the garage game room. Built in 1978, the home moves color by color, Flamingo Pink, Avocado Desert Green and California Poppy Orange, around a sunken conversation-style living room. Bring your brightest swimsuit.

    The Space:

Chromocamino is a vibrant, color-themed home built in 1978, with midcentury touches like a sunken conversation-style living room and a sprawling layout that wanders like a maze. It sits in the Joshua tree-filled foothills of Yucca Valley's Country Club Estates, next to open land with BLM hiking trails down the street. Each room has its own color story: green velvet dining chairs against orange floral curtains, a pink bedroom with flamingo prints, a poppy-orange room with California poppy art. Out back, the fenced yard holds the original pool, a hot tub, a putting green and two fire pits, and the garage is a game room. Four themed bedrooms and three bathrooms, plus a curtained book nook and a den, sleep groups of up to ten. Hide in the book nook if Mrs. Pac-Man gets competitive.

    -Highlights-

► Original midcentury pool, 3 to 6 feet deep (a heating fee applies in cooler months)

► Hot tub with no heating fee

► Putting green, cornhole and hammocks

► Gas fire pit and wood fire pit

► Covered patio yoga room, cactus and native garden and a desert mural

► Garage game room with Mrs. Pac-Man, a pool table, darts and board games

    ► Sunken conversation-style living room

► Four themed bedrooms plus a curtained book nook with a twin bed

    ► Free Tesla EV charger

► Fenced backyard with a propane BBQ, poolside dining for five and an outdoor shower

    ► Wi-Fi and a work desk

► BLM hiking trails down the street

    -Outdoor Amenities-

The fenced backyard is built for long, lazy days. Swim in the home's original midcentury pool, 3 to 6 feet deep, then claim a lounger and let the sun dry you off. Grill on the propane BBQ and set out lunch at the poolside table for five. Someone will start a game of cornhole, someone else will drift to the putting green, and the hammocks are there for whoever wins neither.

Rinse off at the outdoor shower, stretch in the covered patio yoga room, or wander the cactus and native plant garden past the desert mural. Views stretch to the undeveloped, Joshua tree-filled foothills to the northwest, with a peek of the golf course to the southeast. When the light goes, the string lights come on over the hot tub on its railed deck, and the group can split between the gas fire pit and the wood fire pit.

    -Living Area-

A sunken conversation-style living room greets you at the door, and the open front of the house has plenty of windows facing the foothills. Spread out in the main living room, with its two couches, a yellow accent wall and a big glass coffee table, or take over the open den with its futon. Pull the curtain on the book nook, with its twin bed, when you want a quiet hour with a book. A work desk sits away from the front of the house for anyone who has to check in.

The garage game room is where the evenings get loud: a Mrs. Pac-Man tabletop arcade, a pool table under a stained-glass pendant, a dartboard and a stack of board games.

    -Kitchen and Dining-

The well-stocked kitchen has what you need for home-cooked meals and drinks, with spices and a small supply of coffee, creamer and sugar to get the morning going. Carry your cup to the dining table for six, set with green velvet chairs under a brass pendant, and take in a peek of the golf course through the glass doors. It is open to the kitchen and living room, so whoever is cooking stays in the conversation. On warm evenings, move dinner out to the poolside table for five or the round table on the covered patio.

    -Bedrooms and Bathrooms-

Chromocamino has four themed bedrooms and three bathrooms. The primary suite has a king bed. The Mid-Mod Flamingo Pink room pairs a California king with pink walls and flamingo prints. The Avocado Desert Green room has a queen bed under a strand of string lights, and the California Poppy Orange room has a queen, warm orange walls and California poppy art. A semi-private curtained book nook has a twin bed, and the den has a futon, so a bigger group still finds a spot.

    -Surrounding Area-

Hawk's Landing Golf Course and Roost Cafe, the Boom trailhead, the Snakebite Roadhouse and BLM hiking trails are all close to Chromocamino, so a morning hike takes no planning at all. Pappy and Harriet's in Pioneertown is close by for live music and dinner, and downtown Joshua Tree is an easy drive. The national park entrance fills out the map for a day among the boulders.
