Apparently, the hotel was overbooked and on the day of stay, I received a message from the hotel through Expedia app asking me to cancel, eventhough the booking was non-refundable! I had a really hard time finding and booking another place to stay for the night.
The hotel didn't even propose any alternative. Really poor communication. I came across the message by chance, could have easily missed it.
I had to contact Expedia support, who were very responsive and helpful. Eventually, Expedia offered me a coupon and I booked another hotel myself.
