There was not much I liked. Didn't realize there were stairs from the entrance to the lobby. As a senior, this was not a mobility-friendly hotel. Beds were comfortable but we did not feel secure having to open a window. Our view was of macjinery, mold and bird droppings. I would not recommend this hotel.

Loved the sea-view room, and the bed and chairs were very comfortable. What the Expedia listing does not say and their own website does is that there is live music every weekend, which can be loud enough even on the 2nd floor of rooms that sleeping might be difficult. Also, the parking area has only six spots for the 12 rooms at the hotel, so it’s not guaranteed that you would be able to park in their car park (5 pounds/day charge).

Beautiful hotel, our room had two gorgeous sash windows with a great view of Edinburgh Castle. The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly and an amazing breakfast after a good night's sleep in a really comfortable bed. Powerful shower with plenty of hot water. The location was perfect with everything we wanted to see within easy walking distance. Highly recommended!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the hotel. They only reason I put 4 stars overall is because the hotel wifi was very poor.

We stayed for 2 nights. Myself, my husband, our 20 yr old daughter and my parents. Rooms were very clean, but small. The website did make that clear due to the age of the hotel. The beds were very small if you’re booking for a 3 person room, they are small twin beds. Electrical outlets were a bit of an issue. They were 2 prong outlets by the beds, of which we didn’t have converters for and the 3 prong UK converter which we had but we’re not in close proximity to beds for charging phones or iPads/tablets. Our room had windows that opened (rm610) that helped cool down the room and once closed the noise from the city was significantly reduced. Rm 609, windows were bolted shut, so no airflow. Thankfully there is a small elevator once you get up to the stairs to reception. It is stated on the site, but there are several stairs to get to the check in area. Location was ideal for shopping, restaurants, transportation. Would love if there were mini refrigerators in their rooms. All in all a good stay, as long as you’re prepared. Staff were lovely.

The location was great and the staff helpful, but our toilet wasn’t functioning properly. The desk called maintenance and they were, apparently, unable to fix it. We were three days with a poorly functioning toilet. The carpeting in our room was rippling. The entry door would catch on the ripples as we came in to our room. The breakfast was typical and the folks in the breakfast were very nice and helpful.

Awesome find. We love historic hotels worldwide and this one ranks near the top. Oldest hotel in Edinburgh 1854, a 4 star the has many small but unique amenities not found in 5 star hotels. Spacious room, comfy bed, coffee and tea, cockies.I see reviews about noise. Shut the window and use the AC and remember, you picked the heart of the city and not a country Inn. A full Breakfast was a 6.5/10 OK, very nice dining room with large windows. Minutes to Royal mile and most everything else. If ever back to Edinburgh, this is our hotel.
