A nice surprise when I opened the door to the room: it was much more spacious than I expected for this price in Japan. No need to tiptoe around obstacles to get from the desk to the bed to the bathroom. Also, the aesthetics were nice, and the bed was big and comfortable. WiFi was stable.
The front desk staff was friendly, efficient, and helpful. At check-in, the staff person helped me sort out transportation options to my appointment the next day. I had some appointments on the day of check-out, and the hotel kindly held my bags until I returned to pick them up in the evening.
The hotel is a few blocks south of Shijo (an east-west street), and then a little ways off Karasuma (a north-south street). If you're walking south from Shijo, you'll pass the Karasuma Kyoto Hotel (and the Starbucks) and then a police station. Keep going until you reach the corner with a gasoline stand. Turn right. You'll see the hotel in a minute or two (on the right) before you get to the next significant cross-street.
I enjoyed staying there, and I would happily do so again.
