Sounkyo is good for onsen as water quality is good however this hotel is a big run down and front desk service not very friendly .

Nice Onsen hotel. The rooms condition is a bit old but in general, the location on the creek and the experience of spa in the nature is great. Staff are nice and kind.

A major renovation is overdue. Everything needs to be replaced except for the helpful front desk staff. The food is of dismal quality though they seem to churn them out in quantity. The onsen has very slippery floors, more so than other hotels’ onsens. Not a hotel I would recommend to anyone .

Great get-away.
Beautiful mountains, great hiking area. Good value for a relaxing onsen stay but it takes time to get there.

Our package included breakfast and dinner buffet ! Not too much surprises on foods , and all foods were the same on my both stays ! Dining music was a little annoying, hope they can switch to something soft and relaxation! Great onsen !

The hotel is really old and due for a makeover. The room and bathroom are not very clean. Place smells stale too. The food served in the restaurant was edible but not great. I couldn't wait to leave the hotel. If you are driving, you should consider staying somewhere like Asahikawa with more hotel options.

I read the reviews and I was concerned and maybe why it was better than expected. The variety of food for dinner was great and a bit overwhelming... because I wanted to try them all. Overall I would recommend for a mid price budget hot springs.

Quantity over quality
The stay was okay. I'm not sure if this is the case for all the hotels in the area but this facility seems to cater to Chinese and Korean tour groups who bring the volume of people that help this relatively large hotel stay in business. Facility was clean but a bit tired. Need to get to the onsen and have dinner early to beat the crowds.

Average stay but good onsen
We booked this hotel a bit last minute as we changed our destination from Asahidake to Kurodake when the Asahidake Ropeway announced it will be closed for maintenance on the days of our travel. While we enjoyed Sounkyo area the hotel was average. We stayed two nights and had half board, the buffet variety were virtually the same each day. For breakfast, staple like bread is not available. I do understand they mainly cater to local tourists. On the other hand we enjoyed the onsen experience especially the outdoor one.

A nice hotel in a beautiful setting
This big hotel is a little bit old-fashioned. However, overall the facilities were good and the buffet dinner and breakfast were very good. It is possible to book a private onsen bath for an extra fee, which is a very pleasant experience. We would definitely stay in this hotel again if we have the chance of visiting Sounkyo again.

Use of sister hotel's onsen and great atmosphere!
Excellent atmosphere and buffet - the international buffet was of reasonable standard. The hotel made an effort to create a positive atmosphere by including activities such as free shuttle to an outdoor lighting exhibition - it was an added bonus when my friend and I saw a family of wild deers at the location! The hotel also provided a bingo activity where all visitors can join. Most, if not all, participants will win gift! Another added benefit is the free shuttle service to its sister hotel's onsen!

The resort sits on a large premises, and conveniently located near to the Daisetsuzan Sounkyo - Kurodake Ropeway. We went in December, which is apparently a low season, too late for autumn colours, and too early for the ice festival. The great thing is that the resort is relatively empty and we were able to obtain a room with great pricing, and my family were almost alone in the nearby town playing with the pristine snow. Dinner and breakfast were included with an extremely vast spread. The public onsen is the most beautiful in my whole trip of Hokkaido. I love onsen which is open to nature and facing the snow. We could also have free use of the onsen at a higher class sister hotel, the Choyotei nearby, with the free shuttle ferrying guests of the 2 hotels every 30 minutes. Last but not least, we would like to highlight the extremely helpful english speak front desk staff that made our stay so pleasant.

The property is a little old but the place is very clean and well-kept. The onsen is maintained very well. Enjoy the outdoor onsen! The staff are very friendly, polite and helpful! The hotel is set against a magnificent backdrop in nature! Very beautiful environment and simply love the wilderness there.

Beautiful view from our room of the fall foliage! Loved the traditional room but with normal beds. Onsen was a great experience. We also booked a private onsen which was nice to experience. The dinner and breakfast buffet was tasty. Would recommend to others to stay and visit again. Keep in mind the hotel is a bit dated and smells like sulphur (eggs) from the water but it’s to be expected.

Great location, and shuttle bus from Sapporo included. Buffet breakfast/dinner is decent, as is Onsen. Room is a bit dated though, and the shower head needs changing BADLY. The water comes out hard and spiky. Not what you’d expect from a spa hotel. Otherwise good. Beautiful setting in autumn.

Nice fall color in the beginning of Oct.
The best is to book hotel’s free shuttle from/to Sapporo or Asahikawa. And you can book 8am bus to Ginga no Taki (Milky Way Falls) and Ryusei no Taki (Shooting Star Falls). Meals are nice with many varieties to choose from. A long walk to the ropeway station.

Good: We stayed 2 nights in this hotel and were able to upgrade our Japanese style room (8 tatami mats) with an outdated bathroom to a larger updated one on the 6th floor facing the mountain and a creek that had a Western style bedroom and Japanese style living/sitting area. Staff although not particularly versed in English were helpful and accommodating. Although only one location for onsen at B1 the outdoor ones were very pleasant. It was also great to be able to use onsens at their sister property Choyotei where open air onsens on the 7th floor were our favorite ones in the area. Food at the buffet was varied and we also enjoyed a nightly bingo game. 711 is across the road which made it convenient to use ATM although hotel had a pretty large onsite store for souvenirs and incidentals. Not so great: Although food at the buffet was abundant it was Exactly the same both days. It was ok for 1-2 days but we got bored quickly.

This is a nice hotel in a great location. The breakfast and dinner were great and the village is delightful. Wonderful onsen baths for a warm soak at the end of the day.

Friendly staff who speak good English. Better than average buffet dinner, very good international breakfast, and has a small shop - there is also a convenience shop opposite the hotel. The bed was more comfortable than most, but a small room with nowhere to open a suitcase. The Private Hot Spring bath was good - able to adjust temperature.

An onsen resort hotel which is nice for people who have time to spend within the facilities. We spent only one night and had to leave early to visit tourist spots around Sounkyo. The shuttle bus service was useless because its timetable did not allow us to use it. If you only spend only 1N and the free shuttle bus rides from Asahikawa Station arrives at the resort at 4pm and leaves at 9:40am what is the benefit of using it? The room is comfortable with a nice waterfall stream sounds from the windows. The dinner and breakfast had varieties and good unless you didn't have enough time to try them like us. You need at least 2 nights to stay and visit famous tourist spots around Sounkyo. The onsen was so relax and nice.
