After driving for 4 hours we arrived here . We went into the pub to check in and was told to go over to reception desk.We stood there for about 10 mins with staff just walking by us. In the end I asked a member of staff if somebody was on the desk , he was very rude and said “can’t you see we are busy.” We wouldn’t have minded if someone had just said we would be dealt with soon but staff were just walking by us . Apart from this we enjoyed our stay and and certain members of staff were very nice .

Property was experiencing technical difficulties so restaurant's menu was severly impacted, only limited cooked food available! Bar ran out of Pinot Grigio and New Zealand Savignon not available. Staff attempting to do their best in circumstances!

Staff very friendly. Walking distance to town. Parking easy. The person who sorted our room out for staying an extra few nights was very helpful in moving things about for us to stay.

Spent 4 nights in a family room, room was absolutely fine, no issues for us. Had two single beds as well as the double which was fantastic. Everything was clean enough and well presented. All the staff i dealt with were nice and pleasant, the pub is very nice inside and out, all food options are decent if or when needed. The location is a little out the way but only about 1.5 miles so easy to walk plus on a main route so plenty of public transoprt options. Theres also a sainsbury very close with petrol station so very convenient. Only downside is the local waste site and gas company across the road which do smell, its not horrific though and didn't affect our room or the pub, just carpark area. This is of course nothing to do with the venue itself so just unfortunate. I wouldn't let it stop me returning though. Would recommend to anyone who just want a basic hotel room to use as a base with all the extras you would want as and when needed.

This is the second time that we’ve stayed at Penny Hedge and would highly recommend. The staff are really friendly and welcoming. The hotel itself is clean and inviting. Parking is easy and free and the hotel is within walking distance of Whitby town centre. There’s also a Sainsbury’s about five minute walk away. There’s lots of things to see and do around the area and the hotel is in a central location. Thanks to all the staff for making us feel welcome, we had a wonderful stay.

It was a lovely bar. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was nice but no information on how to set room temperature and had to ask at bar for more toilet roll. Coffee etc which was a bit embarrassing. Otherwise it was a lovely stay. Twin beds were a bit small.

Room OK, helpful staff but not enough of them. Restaurant understaffed, grubby tables, limited food options, unavailable wines on list (OK if your palate runs to "Red or White"). Good for an overnight stop but I'd suggest eating elsewhere if the place is busy. Breakfast next day was oddly the highlight, actually nice choices and well cooked and presented.

Lovely 2 night stay at Penny Hedge. Great location for a walk into Whitby. Rooms had all you need. No road noise noted in the rooms. Lovely bar area for a drink. Would definitely stay again.

Very pleased with room bigger than thought bed very comfortable had everything you would need. Staff very friendly especially the gentleman that we saw in reception about 13.30 lots of info given and keybesrky as room ready. Good idea to book in and out online saves time. 2 key cards for room so better if left one in room by accid
