Be enchanted by this scenic Alpine village, which features a charming and well-preserved medieval-style town centre.

Megève is a favourite mountain resort for the wealthy and fashionable. Join the elite crowd to ski or hike on its pretty slopes and shop in its chic stores. Set amid forested mountain peaks, this attractive medieval-style village offers a sophisticated array of bars, restaurants and boutiques.

Trace Megève’s roots as a tourist destination to the 1920s, when Baroness Noémie de Rothschild decided to develop a French mountain resort to compete with Switzerland’s St. Moritz. The baroness employed an architect to design chic chalet-style accommodation some remain today.

During winter, head straight to the slopes. Purchase an Evasion Mont Blanc Ski Pass, providing access to 276 miles (444 kilometres) of tree-lined pistes. With a range of easy to moderate runs and a renowned ski school, Megève is especially suitable for novice skiers. Whether you visit during or outside the ski season, ride the cable car to the Mont d'Arbois summit, where you can enjoy views of Mont Blanc.

After a day spent outdoors skiing or hiking, return to Megève village. Sip a warming hot chocolate at one of the cafés on Place d’Eglise, shop in the historic old town or set off on a horse-drawn carriage ride. Be sure to check out the Chalet du Mont d’Arbois, the first luxurious chalet created by Baroness de Rothschild, as well as the famous Hôtel du Mont-Blanc, which has hosted celebrities such as Ali Khan and Rita Hayworth.

About a 10-minute walk from Hôtel du Mont-Blanc lies Palais des Sports et des Congrès. This sports centre has excellent year-round facilities including saunas, two pools and an Olympic-size skating rink.

The nearest international airport is in Geneva, Switzerland. Alternatively, take the train to Sallanches, about 7.5 miles (12 kilometres) away, then reach Megève by bus. If you choose to drive during winter, consider using snow tyres and chains as weather conditions can be dangerous.

Megève is a popular summer and winter destination with a pleasing mix of Savoyard authenticity and sophistication.

The checkin was easy and smooth. The apartment was outstanding and had plenty of glasses, dishes and plates for multiple meals. The combo washing machine/dryer was awesome to have. The only issue was the reservations needed for the sauna area from 5-8 which we missed out on.

We arrived at 730am and requested if we can check in earlier. We were told a code will be sent to my email by 4pm but it never came. So we went back to the front desk and informed them. A very rude receptionist told my husband, it’s sent by their system and just wait. We have waited for almost 8hrs ...

Stunning and charming resort, best food ever: Try "Le Torrent" and "Le Hibou Blanc" for food. Impeccable and friendly service. Access to skiing decent. I was shocked by the amount of real fur shops (It felt out of date in this day and age).

A very stylish town, geared up for luxury shopping, great selection of restaurants, a little on the expensive side though, very picturesque traditional Alpine chalets, feels like Christmas even February!
