Whales aren't the only cetaceans around Dominica - these rough-toothed dolphins were a fabulous surprise. They are typically found far off-shore, but the deep water around Dominica allows them to venture a bit closer than normal. More than two dozen of them flirted with the boat for a quarter of an hour before they grew bored and moved on. We tried to get in the water with them, but they seemed quite disinterested.

Here we are in the water with a sperm whale. This time she's spy hopping to get a better view of us.
A mother sperm whale and calf heading down for dinner at the same time. They dive a couple thousand feet in search of squid, which is apparently plentiful in the deep waters around Dominica. After 40 minutes or so the whales will resurface for about 10 minutes to grab a new breath before heading back down for more grub.
We found a pod of seven sperm whales traveling together as if they were out on a Sunday drive. Since they weren't moving very fast we were able to get in the water with them a couple of times.

1. Hotel is in the middle of nowhere - no entertainment in or nearby - everyone sleeps early here, including the owners 2. THE ONLY PPROBLEM WAS THE LIFT NOT WORKING THROUGHOUT THE STAY. THIS WAS GOT ROUND BY THE BACK ENTRANCE WHICH ALEAVIATED MOST OF THE PROBLEMS. ROOM PERFECT. STAFF VERY HELPFUL.
