Newly Updated Beachfront Condo with Terrace, Pool & Daily Service

Playa Caribe 5 is a second-floor condo in the central tower of Half Moon Bay’s Playa Caribe. With two bedrooms, each furnished with a king bed and ensuite bath, plus a queen sofa bed in the living room, it sleeps five comfortably. Both bedrooms have ocean views and a small balcony overlooking the bay.

The condo is newly updated and filled with bright touches of Mexican design—hand-painted Talavera tiles, local textiles, and a cheerful dining space with sea views. A fully equipped kitchen includes modern appliances and a large dining area. The oceanfront terrace offers incredible Caribbean views and a perfect place to enjoy coffee, meals, or evening cocktails.

Daily housekeeping, purified water, and beach towels keep your stay stress-free. Shared amenities include a pool, BBQ grill, loungers, and outdoor shower. Concierge staff provide support for tours, airport transfers, and grocery delivery.

Half Moon Bay is part of a secure, gated community with calm waters and a coral reef ideal for snorkeling. Restaurants, Yal Ku Lagoon, Akumal Bay, and dive shops are all within walking distance. A rental car or private driver is recommended for exploring cenotes, ruins, and nearby towns, though taxis and golf carts are readily available. Playa Caribe is one of Akumal’s most established beachfront condominiums, known for attentive service and its prime location.

KINDLY NOTE: South winds may bring Sargasso Seaweed to some beaches throughout the Caribbean, including the Rivera Maya. While the situation is hard to predict for each specific week and area, we would like you to be aware as there is the potential to impact the beach and water entry.

We have a great list of activities and adventures completely unaffected by the arrival of sargasso that we would love to share with you. We hebben genoten van ons verblijf in Akumal. Mooi appartement, met 2 grote kamers en badkamers, zeer goed onderhouden. Het terras met prachtig uitzicht is een surplus. De check in verliep ook heel vlot.

Breathtaking view

I loved this place! Huge bathrooms and stocker with amenities. I still cannot get over the view. I fell asleep to the sound of the waves crashing onto the shore every night—magical! My kids loved the pool and we were just a short walk from Buen vida and La Lunita. The only down side was it was pretty rocky in front of the condos and the condos was a tad smaller than I expected. Having said that, the staff and amenities more than made up for it.

We had a wonderful time here! The condo was prefect for our family and exceeded our expectations!!

We will definitely be back! We had a fantastic time relaxing and snorkeling right in front of the condo. The beach is beautiful. Pictures don't do it justice. The property manager is amazing... he was able to organize a fishing boat and day tour of the ruins/ cenotes for us that fit exactly what we were looking for. It was easy to get around, we walked and rented bikes. There are a few great restaurants within walking distance but the kitchen is well stocked so it was nice to be able to cook in the condo. We are looking forward to our next trip!!

We had an amazing time. I’m the type that doesn’t enjoy being surrounded by a million people on vacation. It really felt like we had the whole Bay to ourselves. Everyday we went on an adventure and explored a new town or a beautiful Cenote. I loved sitting on the deck and watching the waves. Only thing that Could have been better was the seaweed, which is a natural phenomenon. Even that wasn’t too bad if you wanted to get in the water you just had to walk down the beach a bit. Great stay great host.

Great condo, but really bad seaweed problem now all along the coast...

I had stayed in this condo in 2014 and had a wonderful time, so decided to go back last week (3/2 - 3/9). The condo is located on the 2nd floor of the Playa Caribe building, is very nice, always clean, with great places to eat nearby. When we arrived on Saturday we were shocked to see (and smell) all of the seaweed that was rolling into the bay and piling up along the shore. I guess this is a relatively new problem, not just in Half Moon bay but all over. I feel bad having to write this review because Annie has always been great to work with, and since she owns this condo it will no doubt cause her some problems. The staff worked all day, each day, trying to keep up with it which was quite a job. We drove down to the beach at Tulum, which is one of our all time favorite places to swim in the beautiful blue surf, and they were having the same problem, so we turned around and came back. We did use the pool, and also went down the road to the lagoon to snorkel, which was excellent! Lots of fish and no seaweed there, but lots of groups of people being hauled in by van and buses. If you are looking for a relaxing time, eating good food, and don't care about the seaweed, it's a great condo. I would just suggest you check on conditions...

Relaxing and wonderful vacation

We had a wonderful time at Annie's. The location of the condo couldn't have been more perfect - an easy walk to 'town' but even easier to both La Lunita and La Buena Vida restaurants. Half Moon Bay was affected by sargassum but that's Mother Nature and there was always a clear path somewhere along the way to get in the water and swim. And workers were constantly cleaning up the beach. The staff at Playa Caribe are top notch. Agustin even set up for us to have in-room massages on the last night of our stay! We look forward to our next trip to Annie's!!

Perfect

This was my husband and my first time NOT staying in an all inclusive. Our best friends who shared Annie’s condo with us had never done either or even been to Mexico. It was also my first time doing a VRBO. From the second I booked it i received my first email from Annie. Every possible question I had was already answered in this first email which completely set me at ease. Now the condo itself. No other word other than perfect. PERFECT. Four adults in our 50’s, we spent most of our time on the deck, snorkeling in halfmoon bay or swimming in the pool. Tulum was stupid busy.....back to the condo. Yal Ku Lagoon was stupid busy.....back to the condo. It literally had EVERYTHING you needed. And a perfect location. Thank you Annie for an incredible holiday

Great place...

Loved the traditional style of the place. Of course, the view is fantastic and you not only have a view forward on the patio but the sides are open also for additional view. Spent alot of time on that patio! As noted on the listing, the WiFi was perfect and the air conditioning was perfect and comfortable. Hot water was endless. Kitchen was fully stocked. Akumal is more of a low key area versus Playa de Carmen and Cancun. Went down to Tulum one day and that is getting so busy, I was so glad to get back to Akumal and Annie's place that day to relax again. Great place! Thank you Annie.

Too pricey for what you get!

My wife and I stay at this condo for the week after New Years Eve. First of all Annie is responsive when problems develop and the staff were great. They worked everyday to remove the seaweed from the beach and the housekeeper and manager were very friendly. However, if you plan on staying here during a busy season, there won’t be enough hot water for you to take a shower in the evening before dinner. So if you don’t mind spending the day in the beach and getting hot and sweaty, and not taking a shower before dinner or going to bed, then go for it. It’s a nice place. Otherwise, look somewhere else! Also when I requested a discount afterwards for all the inconvenience, Annie just ignored my request. Imagine that.

Ideal Location, Accommodating Owner

Our family had never been to Mexico together, so we weren't sure this was a good location for a week's vacation. What a wonderfully pleasant surprise. The condo is beachfront at Akumal's Half Moon Bay. Incredible sunrises, warm water, good snorkeling, and easy access to all sorts of activities and sightseeing. The best part was that it was away from the hecticness of Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Tulum. Our host stayed in email contact with us from booking until the time of our trip. Her ideas and suggestions were spot on. We visited ruins in Chichen Itza, Coba and Tulum. We visited three cenotes, which were amazing. And we had a traditional Thanksgiving dinner at a restaurant she recommended. The condo was well stocked with cooking utensils and appliances, and we had a welcome package of fresh bananas, pineapple, and other fruit. A nice touch. We cooked breakfast in the condo most days and the daily maid service did all the dishes. What a treat. Very enjoyable restaurants and bars within walking or golf cart distance. There were two convenience stores within walking distance, as well. There is no public access left in Half Moon Bay or Akumal Bay, so being on the beach is a must and Playa Caribe #5 was perfect for us. Highly recommend this rental unit and if our travels take us back to the east Yucatan coast, we would not hesitate to rent this unit again.

Nice comfortable condo, but foul smelling seaweed.

The condo was perfect for my wife and I since we like having separate bathrooms. It was a bit small, however, for 2 couples to share. The staff servicing the condo building were terrific and a definite asset. We really like Half Moon Bay and Akumal, and have been visiting here for 12 years. This was the first time we’ve encountered the seaweed problem: it formed a continuous high ridge along the shore of Half Moon Bay, creating a foul smell rather than the usual fragrance of the Caribbean Sea. I recommend checking on the status of this problem before staying there.

AMAZING condo that matches the host! A quiet paradise (in early May). Highly recommended!! <3

I booked Annie's condo, unit #5 at Playa Caribe, for my birthday trip and brought my fiancé, mother and sister. My mom was initially worried about the unit not having a CO2 / smoke detector after hearing about an American family that died from CO2 poisoning while vacationing in Mexico, and both she and my sister had concerns about the potential for crime with a particular concern about taking a shuttle from the airport at night. Annie had sent us CO2 detector in advance to ease my mom's nerves, but it turned out that not one of these things were a problem -- everything was amazing. When we landed, we took a CARM shuttle from the airport to Annie's place (thanks to her suggestion). It's like an Uber, scheduled in advance of your trip -- a private car with a driver who waits for you and confirms your reservation before leaving -- but with beer. Our driver spoke good enough English to answer any questions we had and was incredibly helpful. We also took advantage of the 1-hour grocery store stop to bring groceries and stock up the condo upon arrival. When we got to the condo, we were pleasantly surprised at how serene, beautiful and comfy it was. It's in what's essentially a gated community with a guard at the front, etc. which further eased my mom's fears of any crime. It was also immediately obvious that there was no need for a smoke / CO2 detector as there are two exits; the front door and the back door that leads to the balcony (the unit is on the 2nd floor). (If you had to jump from the balcony down to the sand to escape a fire, you'd survive.) There's also a strong breeze whenever a window or door is open, and there's no gas heat in the building, so CO2 is incredibly unlikely to be a problem. Annie was perfectly accommodating for anything we needed and the unit was perfect for a quiet stay between trips to Tulum (which is busier with more active nightlife). We took cabs for Tulum and sightseeing and rented a golf cart to get around Akumal. There's also a perfect little pool right on the water at the condo (and the beach is a bit rocky behind the condo, so we appreciated that). We did like the beaches in Tulum a bit better for swimming since they were less rocky and more socially active, but for snorkeling and if you want to go home to a quiet place where you hear nothing but waves crashing under the moonlight, Annie's condo was perfect. Lastly, order from personal Chef Daveed and check out La Zebra Hotel (Tulum)! Trip highlights for us. <3

Wonderful week at Playa Caribe #5

Playa Caribe is great property set in the middle of Half Moon Bay. Unit #5 has everything you need for a comfortable and convenient stay, and the view is spectacular! Many great restaurants are within walking distance, as is Yal Kul Lagoon. This area is a snorkeler's paradise, and we were pleased that the weather cooperated and we were able to go out every day. The owner of this property was great about sending information about things to do and places to eat in the area prior to our arrival. It was a great vacation and we hope to return again in the coming years.

A very special place!

I really can’t say enough good things about Annie’s condominium! It is in a beautiful location right on the ocean and every night we fell asleeep and woke up to the soothing and relaxing sound of the waves from Half Moon Bay. Inside the condominium is a delightful feast of cheerful color and design....immaculate and comfortable. The staff who work at the complex are friendly and helpful. Also, thank you Annie for all of your tips before we arrived! Can’t wait to come back.

Quiet Lovely Stay, Well Cared for and Safe

We really enjoyed staying at Annie's. We were there this last January with our 2 small children (3 and 6). Maybe less crowded due to mild winter in US and State Dept warning. However, we never saw a "questionable person" and as extensive world travelers, we feel we are always aware. The condo was one of the best appointed I've stayed in Mexico. There is some construction 2 buildings away, but they were very quiet and really not noticeable. The staff we friendly and capable. The small convenience store across the street was nice (bread, beer and peanut butter kinda place). Chomak grocery in town is expensive. I highly recommend going with CARM transfer and having them stop in Playa for your groceries (165$ round trip!). Also, dont feel weird about buying milk that is non refrigerated here, its really ok! (of course put it in the fridge after opening) There is a golf cart rental right as you come into Akumal under the arch, and the benefit of using them is you get to park in their lot. That is a big bonus as parking can be hard when in town (Annie can tell you the name) . But with older kids, I would just rent bikes. The beach is not very busy which is a plus for us, much different than Akumal beach in town. The town beach has areas roped off in the water for sea turtle snorkeling run by companies (blah) and full of people. The wind is much less here than Tulum (wind is tiresome for little ones) but the beach in Tulum is hard to beat. I would definitely come back here and to Half Moon Bay: Quiet, friendly and oh so easy...)

Beautiful condo with an amazing view!

This was our first trip to the Riviera Maya, although we've been to the Pacific side of Mexico many times. Annie's condo did not disappoint! It's beautiful, comfortable, welcoming, festive, well-stocked, clean, and did I mention the view? We fell asleep to the sound of waves crashing and woke to watch the light come in. Amazing. Annie goes out of her way to make her guests feel welcome, and we did! We traveled with 3 little kids, and renting a golf cart was pretty much the highlight of their trip--so glad we did. We also took advantage of the grocery delivery. We snorkeled in the bay (really wish we'd brought our own masks and snorkels from home as the prices were insane at the dive shops) and the Lagoon and spent plenty of time playing in the sand out front. The beach at Half Moon Bay is beautiful and quiet, but not the best for swimming for young kids. Instead, we did most swimming at Akumal Bay. The pool was cute although a bit chilly in January, given there had been some cool weather before we arrived. Augustin helped us arrange transportation so that we could get to the ruins at Tulum and see some Cenotes, and we were glad we didn't have to navigate the area on our own. There is an overwhelming number of things to do and see outside of Akumal, and we wish we'd done a bit more research as we couldn't possibly keep up! In the end, we mostly explored Akumal and rode around in our turquoise golf cart eating at the many open-air restaurants and under palapas and drinking tropical drinks--sin alcohol for the kiddos. :). Thanks Annie for your hospitality--we can totally see why you fell in love with Playa Caribe #5 at first glance and why you have so many 5 star reviews. It's a special place for sure!

Wonderful place to relax and unwind!

Playa Caribe #5 is one of the best holiday excursions I’ve ever taken! Annie and John really go the extra mile to make sure guests feel welcome and comfortable during their stay. All of the additional information Annie has compiled in their notebook here at the property as well as online was really informative and helpful in motivating our family to experience some different things during our trip as well. Turtles were out of season, but the snorkeling was amazing, the food was fantastic, the locals are wonderful and we really couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay during our trip! Thank you again!!! And we look forward to visiting in the future!
