The restaurant is lovely renovated but the room are not the best nor is the lobby or stair aread bathrooms in rooms are tiny and not clean enamel coming away from showers paint peeling from the walls in bathroom

Massive family room with a day window overlooking the bay. Comfy bed, very warm with loads of hot water for a shower or bath - might need a towel rack if people are staying more than a night. Good, standard fayre in the restaurant with a two-course meal at £20 (£24 for three) and breakfast was excellent- complete the slip before you go to bed.

The hotel is ok for 1/2 nights we stayed for 7, room only serviced every 3 days but could ask the staff for fresh towels, tea/coffee etc. Would have liked a comfy chair in the bedroom. The bathroom needs sorting the sink is too small, no toilet roll holder and very little space to place things on. Shower was good once we worked out how to work it, needs a grab bar or two as quite a step into and out of the shower unit. Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was ok cereals and freshly cooked breakfast available no fruit or yoghurt and is served in the bar area which is quite dark, the restaurant area is a lot lighter but breakfast has to be taken in the bar area. Plenty of parking at rear of hotel. Room 1 is 3 bedded and is located over kitchen area so had fan going until late so was noisy, but has a view of the sea. Hotel is in good location if using public transport, train station 200 yards from rear of hotel with good links to Glasgow, Largs, Ayr etc bus stop close to front of hotel. If going to the Isle of Arran check the sailings from Ardrossan before hand or travel from Troon. Hotel is not disabled friendly for overnight guests. Food is good and price is reasonable restaurant gets busy.

The room was very small. The bathroom was tiny with nowhere to hang things, not even a toilet roll holder and the floor was quite dirty. However we had a lovely sea view. The staff were great and the breakfast was very good. We ate there, as there wasn’t anywhere else in the immediate vicinity to eat. The food was good. We had onsite parking.

My main problem was sorted once I reported it, but it was an unusual scenario, I believe, in that my room had not been properly cleaned before my arrival. The manager was superb in accepting my observations and promised to get the room cleaned by housekeeping the following day whilst I was out (I stayed for 2 nights). However, that did mean that I had to stay and sleep in a room that wasn't clean and I had to sterilise my mug, saucer and spoon. I also found the bathroom lacking - it had no toilet roll holder, the shower cubicle had no shelf for bottles of shampoo etc. which I find difficult, and the small washbasin was difficult to wash in without water getting all over the floor. The restaurant food was excellent - although waitress communication with the chef did let them down on my one evening - but it was sorted and the manager kindly gave me a complimentary meal and wine by way of compensation, so everything that could be done to rectify problems was done. Overall I enjoyed my stay.

The staff were very helpful and obliging; the room was comfortable and had a sea view. It also had a TV, which was not advertised on the website - an omission which should perhaps be rectified. As to breakfast, I was a bit disappointed that there was no fruit available as an option - but no objections were raised when I brought in my own supplies. Despite a fair being in operation on the green opposite, it was very quiet - EXCEPT on the Friday night when there was a function with loud music on in the room downstairs until midnight ; I suppose one has to accept that when staying in a hotel open to the public, and fortunately it was only the one night. And it also meant I could get a meal at the hotel on the evening I arrived, which was a plus. So on the whole I had a very pleasant stay.

From the outside this hotel looks rundown. The decor inside needs to be upgraded. Disappointed with the bathroom as there was a smell coming from the shower basin. This was remedied by putting water in the shower plug. In the morning, we could not get hot water from the shower. However, having said that, the staff at the hotel are friendly and helpful. The hotel employs 3 chefs who are tremendous - our dinner in the evening was fantastic. Fresh ingredients - and perfectly cooked. The BEST lemon cheesecake I have ever eaten! Many locals go for a meal there, and the restaurant is busy. Breakfast was excellent too - and served promptly. So, you need to see past the outdated exterior and interior decor…. The hotel is ideal for getting to the Ferry to Arran the next day. We would stay there again. We would certainly eat there again!

Decent hotel to stay in if you are catching the ferry over to Arran as it's only a 5 minute drive from the port. An tired old hotel but clean nonetheless and friendly helpful staff. The bed was cozy and the hotel was nice and quiet, and the car park was large. The full Scottish breakfast was also really lovely :-) As a solo traveller it was perfect for my needs, I wouldn't recomment it for a romantic getaway though!

staff very friendly and helpfull. Close to transportation. food was tasty. On the down side, bathroom walls and ceiling were peeling. The room door trim in the key lock area looked like the door can easily be opened with a credit card slipped between the frame and the door.

The cooked breakfast was lovely, freshly made to my order time taken, tea/coffee available and cereals/juices too. The negatives are the bed was uncomfortable, there were several insects (flies and spiders) in the room when I arrived, and there is no parking for a long wheel based van (although no one complained by me taking up 2 spaces). Overall, a 6 out of 10. Does its job for a quick stay as a tradey.
