They cancelled our reservation 1 hour before check-in

I hadn't heard from the owner/manager prior to the day of our vacation and I thought they were being very careful about giving out a code or key location to check-in. I continued to monitor my emails for check-in instructions but nothing came. Finally I called and inquired and someone said they would get back to me. Then I got a notification that our reservation was cancelled, literally one hour before check-in. They said the previous renter did damage they had to repair but we got no heads up that it was going to take longer to prep the unit. It looks like the location is good but I can't comment on the cleanliness or anything else inside the unit since we couldn't check-in.
