We had a great time staying at this lovely cabin on a lovely little island on a lovely little lake. The row boat and battery-powered motor made it easy to get four people and all of our gear from shore to island in only two trips. There are maybe 30 houses around the edge of the lake, with mountains beyond. One end has a small beach (and a sandy bottom that extends at least 150 ft into the lake before the water is over your head). Loons, frogs, and other little critters galore. The outhouses are deluxe, with a sink outside; the hot shower is indoors. The house plumbing offers running lake water; rather than carrying in drinking water, we used a backpacking pump filter just to be safe. The water is sweet and clear. We had a blast using the kayaks and canoe at the cabin in between our excursions to Lake Placid and other towns in the area. (Check out Outdoor Experience for awesome zip lining!) A big fire pit at one end of the island was a delight, with the loons calling, and the moonlight reflecting off the lake. The house is also well-stocked with books, games, and information about local wildlife and local hikes. We had a small issue with plumbing during our stay, but Steve came out and fixed it promptly, and was a pleasure to deal with throughout the booking process and the stay. It's rare that we return to a place we've been before, but we may just make an exception for this terrific property. The only change I would make is a better mattress/box spring in the first floor bedroom, which is the only sleeping area with true privacy.
