  • The California Condor was a common sight along the Columbia River in Lewis and Clark's day. By the early 1980's, there were only twenty-two left on the face of the planet, all in California.

Today, thanks to a massive effort to re-populate the species via in-captivity pairing, there are some two-hundred members. But their recovery is far from assured.

The Oregon Zoo has undertaken its own recovery effort whose ultimate goal is the re-introduction of the species into the protected wilderness area around the Columbia River Gorge. In short, to bring them home.

For now, they live out their days in a vast, outdoor aviary designed specifically to mimic their habitat in the wild.

If you have never seen one up close before, I urge you to come take a look. They are larger than any flying bird you will ever see, unless you go to Peru. And though black and white practically from head to toe, their plumage shines and reflects the light like dark, polished metal.

If that doesn't suit your fancy, I will tell you that, as with all big birds, if you wait around long enough, they will do something so awe-inspiring that it will take your breath away, and something so goofy that you will laugh out loud.

Either way, you won't be bored for a second.

GFU graduation

We loved this place. It was perfect for our family. We enjoyed the various living spaces and the outdoor patio. The morning sunrise from the main suite was breath taking every morning.

Big, beautiful house with cozy feel

Lots of space, cozy wooded setting, all the features you could want for a group. Very clean and well-appointed. Love thebdire pit and hot tub! Note, there are lots of steps and levels in the house, so probably not great for people with mobility issues or toddlers.

Well-maintained & Tranquil Ambiance

We were extremely satisfied with our stay! The tri-level home and property are beautiful and very well-maintained. Every room was absolutely immaculate. We appreciated the quiet, tranquil ambience. The grounds are lush, with a path to walk and explore the woods. Directions to the property were clear, entry was convenient and the hosts were attentive and available. I highly recommend the Cooper Haven and would gladly stay again in the future.

Beautiful Grounds

Pulling up to the house was beautiful. There were lights strung alongside the long driveway entrance as well as in the front and back of the house. It felt like you were in the woods but in reality, only 5 minutes from everything. One downfall is the steps into the house. The risers are higher than normal and there is nothing to hold onto, so we went in and out through the garage most of the time. The furniture and beds were amazing. It was nice having the third bathroom downstairs but since there is no shower, everyone was sharing upstairs bathrooms. We all enjoyed the beautiful grounds including the hot tube and firepit.

Cooper Haven - Most Excellent Stay !!!

We fully enjoyed nearly a week at Cooper Haven. We had our large adult family stay with room to spare. Property is as listed with no disappointments - only pleasantly surprised. Inside and out, property is great with large yard and awesome deck areas. Arrived and was able to check in a little early and rec’d a couple text messages while there to make sure everything met our expectations. Plenty of bed/bath/kitchen/ dining room space and enjoyed hot tub and recreation garage area. Very comfortable and clean! Once again can only say Most Excellent property!!!

Overall Great Stay

Lots of space on the inside of the house - a lot more than anticipated. Furniture was comfy, beds were comfy, there were fans in each room to help cool the temperature. Lots of space outside too. There was also plenty of seating both inside and outside for everyone around the table. There’s also extra chairs which was nice. The only knock we had was the outside deck needing maintenance. Regardless, it was a great stay.

Great House

All in all, it was a very nice stay. My only gripe is that the Roku didn't work, so we couldn't use the TV.

The house was as advertised and hosted my group of 11 well over the weekend. The garage was a nice feature for games, lots of space to park, and there were plenty of places to sleep. The kitchen and outdoor space were very nice as was the hot tub, though the hot tub controls were confusing. You need to hold the water drop icon until it levels up exactly with the wavy line on the screen, I had to google it as there were no directions. Only minor suggestion was there were only 12 towels for 11 guests for showers and the hot tub, so bring an extra towel if you can. There was also only 2 extra rolls of toilet paper, so we were down to one roll for all the bathrooms by Sunday. Additionally the propane ran out for the last tiny bit when we were grilling, we made do and they responded quickly and asked if would want it replaced. We were basically done so we didn't bother. There was another propane tank for the gas fire pit, so if you run out you could just use that one. I also couldn't find any other extra trash bags, so we only had 2 trash bags for 11 people for the whole weekend, but we just threw our recycling directly in the bin outside and used small plastic bags for the rest.Overall we had a great stay. The house was clean, very nice, the kitchen had plenty of plates and utensils, and the outdoor space was beautiful. The hosts were responsive with questions I had before the stay and during the stay. I would stay here again!

Big home don’t bring lots of people.

We decided on this property because of location, interior looked great! (From pictures) and it was close to family in Portland. Issues we had -hot tub had to be drained and refilled because of previous client (not management companies fault and appreciated their promptness in getting it fixed -home sleeps 12 there were 8 towels (for both bathrooms and hot tub use) -master bedroom bed is like sleeping on a sheet of plywood. Worst bed! -kitchen is under supplied we were constantly washing silverware and plates. There are walls of cabinets all empty. Bunch of plastic crap from Amazon for cooking utensils. No baking sheets. No serving trays. Oh but I have a coffee grinder and a blender -tv in family room is stuck in corner and hard to get people around it. -home has a fire pit (you can’t use it) -home has a propane fire pit bottle was empty -bbq was dirty and propane tank was empty we of course found this out as we were getting ready to cook. I called and text property management “I can have my team bring one in a couple hours” I went a purchased one property manager called as I was walking into store saying the “team”Could have some there in under 2 hours. I don’t expect them to have someone on standby but I do expect them to check home before our arrival and make sure it is ready. -cable wires for railing on deck fall apart. Super dangerous. All the main floor deck and deck around firepit the nails are sticking up you will trip. All the grass is dead in back yard
