The look and the old genuine feeling of the hotel is what makes it special. This really looks and feels like a modarnized old chinese Palace.
The location is good with short walk for shopping and old Town.
The hotel is comfortable, but compared to a new modern hotel it's less comfortable. The shower has low water pressure, and the toilet could hardly flush. But things worked.
Amazing staff. Location perfect, except taxi's can't find it. Expensive for this area. The building's history really adds to the uniqueness of the property.
This was a truly unique visit in an historic building tucked in the city that has grown around it. It is like staying in the Forbidden City. I was told the original sight was over 300 years old, but I didn't get a clear answer on which part of the building, if any, were actually original. Multiple wonderful courtyards to explore and artifacts throughout the hotel. They put on formal Chinese dinners complete with traditional live music.
It's a 10-15 minute walk to the Metro station which goes through pedestrian only street with nice shops, bars, and restaurants. It is a little pricey for the actual room, but if you crave something unique, it's worth the extra $$.
Nice hotel with charming traditional Beijing courtyard. Hardware in the rooms are a bit worn and lacking attention to details.
Service is good in general but somehow our request for a taxi to the airport, delivered 3 times, over a period of 3 days, never reached the concierge and we almost missed our onward train journey.
The Hutongs in the neighbourhood are the best aspect of choosing this hotel. They are full of independent restaurants and shops and are exceedingly charming. But this also renders the hotel a bit difficult to find for taxi drivers. It's recommended to have your map loaded in advance to help the taxi drivers find the hotel.

Days of Glory
Past
Beautiful exterior, worn out interior, friendly staff.
Hotel has seen better days. In great need of an infusion of cash to bring it back to 4 or 5 star status. Carpets worn and dirty, little or no hot water. Never figured out breakfast, sometimes they had a minimal, and I mean minimal breakfast, more often than not, nothing.
Staff was great though.
The hotel staff was fantastic. Gave us a detailed map of the city, oriented us to the major tourist sites in Beijing, helped us with taxi rides, checked our departing flight for us and ordered food for us after hours. The hotel was actually a building for Qing Dynasty officials and retains the ambience of older Chinese architecture. That alone makes it worth the stay if you can tolerate being away from another anonymous corporate hotel.
If you are looking for a hotel in Beijing that is not the usual bland multi-national chain , then this is the place for you. An oasis of calm in the middle of the city and close enough to walk to many of the local attractions. For those further away it is close to a metro station.
Staff were friendly and the accommodation of a good standard.
The one challenge is finding the place! It is in the "hutongs" which are a sprawling area of old alleyways. The initial approach is along a busy, touristy, bustling hutong - after that it is a leap of faith to walk down a much darker, narrower alley with no clear indication that a top class hotel is situated some way down it.
It is worth the effort, full of character with the rooms arranged around tranquil courtyards containing pools of carp.
The staff was attentive and helpful. They gave great tips on places to visit and helped us navigate the city. I would totally recommend the hotel to friends visiting Beijing.
The hotel is difficult to find but ideally located in the Hutong area. The style and design are fantastic and really provided us with the best possible old China experience. We loved it!
Great location secreted between 2 lane ways which is dead quiet. Great place to retreat t after a hectic day on the busy streets. At the end of the street is another laneway full of restaurants and shops - plenty for everyone. Close to Tianamin Sq, Forbidden City (about 3 ks) and some very nice gardens. Good market shopping also close by at which your offer should be about 20% of the initial asking price. Great bartering to be had. Definitely recommend.

Mostly very good
The room was beautiful. The hotel is beautiful. BUt you can't control the heat settings in the room. Only way to do that is to open the windows. The "western" restaurant is really just a bar with limited and not very good food, not very good wine, and a bartender who can't speak english. Be prepared. Or go out to the pedestrian mall to eat. Hotel is on a tiny street that isn't very accommodating to vehicles so don't be surprised if the taxi driver lets you off in the back of the hotel or down several streets or 15 minutes of a walk away from the hotel. Seems Beijing taxi drivers think its ok to drop you quite a ways away from where you actually want to be. Sucks in the cold. Again, being ably to communicate in Chinese helps when this happens. There is usually one hotel staffer who can speak english very well and she seemed to always be somewhere close by. However there isn't much room to negotiate with her regarding securing drivers to do the touristy things around town or to the Great Wall. It's one way, one price regardless of how much or how little time you have to spend out for the day. Again, not a criticism but be prepared that this is just the way it is. It's a convenient location, and the walking mall is great. I'd stay here again, but I know better how to do it next time.
The hotel located perfectly near the busy walking street which come with lots of local authentic handmade stuff and delights. It is also 5 mins walking distance to train station. The hotel is clean , big and giving an excellent experience . It has a fish pond with bridge and big garden . I am regretted that I only have a night stay. I definitely recommended and will stay in again if I am visiting Beijing.
