We fell in love with Biddeford Pool. The beach access is amazing. You get access to both rocky coast and beach close to the house. There are beautiful marshy trails as well. It's unusual to encounter so much conserved land on the Maine coast. We were there in April and there was literally no one on the beach. Our dogs had a field day! We had 11 people staying over, and everyone was comfortable. There are lots of indoor spaces to get privacy. The outdoor deck was superb on a sunny spring morning. We cooked up a storm in a wonderful well-equipped kitchen. It's both homey and luxurious. Warmly recommended.

We rented the house for an 80th Bday celebration. Location was perfect for everyone traveling and had meaning with past summer visits to Biddeford Pool, Fortunes Rocks and Saco. The house provided plenty of room with a nice big dining table which we were all able to sit around and share memories of the Birthday Wife/Mom/Grandmother. Kitchen was well stocked, ice maker was nice and probably even more important for summer getaways. Grandchildren enjoyed the ping pong and foosball table in the basement.
While the communication with Vacasa LLC was easy (more then enough eMails & Text msgs), seems a bit disjoint with them wanting to manage everything thru their platform vs our rental thru VRBO. Makes me question the fees going to both Vacasa & VRBO

We were looking forward to a fun filled relaxing weekend with family and friends. The location is beautiful but remote if you plan on enjoying restaurants and other areas. Have never rented a place that did not provide at least a couple of extra rolls of toilet paper in each bathroom, extra kitchen garbage bags or extra rolls of paper towels and none of this was provided. Since the closest town is 20 mins, this was an inconvenience after traveling 4 hours. We were a party of 10 and glad we didn’t have the 14 it states in the description as the basement is dark, musty and noisy when the toilets and showers are being used. This space should not be considered a sleeping area. We were unable to use the backyard due to the weather but it did not look like the welcoming photos provided. Overall beautiful location but property needs some attention including peeling paint on door frames, window sills, screens and carpeting.

CONS: Trying to figure out how to unlock the door was ridiculous - very confusing instructions. Finally called the agent. The house smelled very stuffy & musty so we opened all the windows. shouldn't the cleaning staff had done that?? The exterior of the house is in need of repair - rotten shingles. Also the interior trim around the windows is in bad shape. The fridge ice machine did not work and the 'professional ice machine' also was not hooked up. And as another guest noted: 2 dish towels and 1 roll of paper towels - hardly adequate.
PROS: Nice area, close to beach walk, and the grounds are lovely, professionally landscaped. The kitchen obviously has gone through a major overhaul and is wonderful. The beds were all very comfortable. Nice dining room. And huge TV room although the window shades look wonky.
Lots of room for a family reunion!

Overall this was an excellent stay, even in the late fall in New England. The walkable distance to the beach and kayakable cove (with provided kayaks) was a huge plus. The house is comfortable and well equipped. We'd stay here again without hesitation.

Upon arrival we found that the handle on the door to the deck just fell right off and left the door unable to be locked or even to be latched closed. We immediately reported this only to have them wait until the afternoon of the following day to get it fixed leaving us with a door that couldn’t be secured or even shut for an entire night being completely unsafe. The yard was in shambles. There was still an opened, half full beer can and a Dixie cup with tobacco spit in it left in the property. All of the beds in the house were unbelievably rigid and uncomfortable. The beds in the basement were unusable due to how noisy the utilities equipment is down there forcing one of our guests to sleep on a couch. Multiple dots throughout the house won’t latch closed because some are completely uneven with the frame and others don’t even have a latch plate. There is a huge ant problem in this house, especially around the sink where they are en masse. We were only left with a few trash bags for a whole week stay with at least 6 people in the house on any given day so we had to go buy our own. The water temperature was incredibly erratic at all times whether taking a shower or even just using the sink. A construction crew began work early in the morning during our stay making it impossible to sleep. There’s also a random sharp piece of sheet metal screwed into the base on the wall halfway up the stairs that sliced the side of my foot open.

The house was lovely and had every convenience. Plenty of room for people to gather in different spaces and relax. It would have been great for a multigenerational group. The location was wonderful for morning walk along the beach, even in chilly weather. Overall we had a nice time.
The cons: The management company did not respond to my questions before arrival. Check-out was 10am on Sunday. Makes sense for busy summer season but since we were only coming for an off-season weekend I asked about late check out. Didn't get a response. Then at the last minute got an automated message offering late check out for an extra fee. That would have been nice to know ahead of time. Also, the house was not as clean as we would have liked. I did reach the management company and they said they would notify housekeeping, but that didn't help us at all.

Very nice house kitchen was wonderful, plenty of room, i would have given it a 5 but downstairs only bathroom door was broken which was a pain, everyone had to go upstairs if they didn't want to mess with the door, with the money it cost to rent and then 900 dollars in fees ontop of rental fee there is absolutely no reason to not fix it and just put a sign on it, that's just bad management otherwise great place

We enjoyed everything about this house and the area of Biddeford Pool. The house was beautiful, spacious, family friendly and had everything we could've asked for and then some. The ocean breeze coming in through the windows even in mid November was our favorite part. We walked to both beaches several times and enjoyed riding the provided bikes around the neighborhood. The kitchen was perfect for cooking the big family dinner that we planned. Beds were all comfortable and the basement was a dream for all the kids. Would love to return!

The property was beautifully landscaped. The house was clean, comfortable, and supplied with all the amenities to make one’s stay stress free and fun. We were a family group of 13. Eight adults and five children under the age of five. Bikes, boogie boards, games, kayaks, ping pong, 56” television, and a weight room station are just some of the perks provided. The kitchen was stocked with multiple electric appliances, pots, pans, dishes, glasses etc.. The Mermaid House was set up to make the guests feel like they were in their own home and whatever was needed at a moments notice was readily available. We had a great time and would gladly rent again.

My children had so much fun on our family vacation. We walked to the ocean twice a day. They had so much fun finding all the tiny crabs and shrimp. We cooked some fresh Maine Lobster in the phenomenal kitchen. The most organized rental I have ever been in. The house manual was also so helpful and well thought out. We really enjoyed The Mermaid House and hope to book again in the future.

When family is spread out around the country, it's always a great event when we can get everyone together! We gathered at Mermaid House to celebrate Christmas, coming from Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Wyoming, Texas and Florida. The house itself was perfect--large dining room table around which we enjoyed delicious food and wine, comfortable accommodations for all, including a great bonus room, where we hung out and played games. Speaking of games, there is an awesome assortment of games, packaged in their original boxes with laminated instructions and small plastic bags so you know exactly what and how many pieces there should be. Amazingly well organized! Loved walking the neighborhood and the nearby beaches, even though it's March! The house manual with all the details about the house, the area, recommendations, etc., is the best we have seen to date!
