  • Throughout my childhood I spent so much time at this park. I always remember of thinking of it as the park in the middle of the mountains. What I never noticed as a child was how every single aspect of this park was planned out and put there for a reason. Likewise before studying the photographic image I had never thought about how we construct a image and its affordances and constraints. One thing I really want to point out in this image is that while we have this beautiful park there is a huge ugly pipe in the middle of the photograph. It is part of the necessity of the planning of the park, just like the frame is a necessity of an image. We sometimes want to forget it is there but it is a necessary part of an image and still has meaning. #appalachianechoes

  • This is the headstone of Banner Elk, North Carolina. This elk has been in the town forever, but this past year the elk has been refurbished and installed as the centerpiece of the town. This elk frames Appalachia in the sense of this small town pride in the mountains. In the background you can see the historic elementary school and rolling mountains and once again the North Carolina pride of the state flag surrounding this elk even though about 100ft to the right there is another flagpole with the same flags raised high and proud. This cabin wasn't only cozy, but it was extremely comfortable and clean. The hot tub was amazing! These things along with the location being so close to Banner Elk, Beech Mountain, Grand Father Mountain and Boone makes this the place to stay.

Perfect Weekend

The cabin was a great spot to relax while attending a wedding in Banner Elk. Extremely close to the venue, restaurants, shops, and all the skiing. Beds were comfortable and the fire place was awesome. The hot tub was the cherry on top!

Great cabin

Very good setting and spacious cabin. Well taken care of and clean. Close to downtown banner elk and a lot of trails for hiking. All around great time and great place to stay

Great Cabin and location

We stayed at this cozy cabin to visit the Land of Oz event. The cabin is in a great location close to the Land of Oz on Beech mountain and Banner Elk. We had a great stay, loved the fireplace. Would definitely rent again.

A nice stay near grandfather mountain

This was a nice cabin to stay at when visiting grandfather mountain. The cabin was clean and well decorated. The hot tub and all the other amenities worked. It is located in a wooded area but right on a main road.

Could not have been more pleased with this cabin! Very convenient to Banner Elk and Beech Mountain. Extremely clean and comfortable. Loved the hot tub on the private screened in porch! Host was most accomadating. Would definitely rent this cabin again.

Perfect location between 2 ski resorts/mountains. Hot tub added benefit for recovery after day on the slopes. Excellent communication with host. Looking forward to a return stay with my wife.

Nice location - close to Lees-McRae college and Beech Mountain. Kitchen was well equipped, bedrooms were spacious. Fire pit and hot tub are a nice addition. Nice beds and bathrooms.

Love this cabin

Cabin was clean we love the hot tub loved everything about the cabin. It was really nice to be backed up to the woods and see the nature had trouble working the TV but other than that everything was good.

Great location with plenty to do. Stayed here with adults, an infant and dogs. Everyone had a wonderful time. We cooked breakfast and dinner , kitchen was well stocked. Highly recommend. Will stay again!!

My family had a wonderful time in this cozy log cabin. The hot tub was wonderful, the kitchen well supplied, and the house like a warm hug. It is right on the road which we hadn't anticipated, but we quickly forgave it once we realized how delightful the back screened in porch is.

Short get away

This home served our needs very well. Came up for a few days of hiking and we loved this cabin. Very good communication with owners. Check in was super easy. Loved the rocking chairs on the front porch and hot tub on the back porch. We would certainly stay here again next time we come up!
