a hotel near to the seaside with history feeling. good and welcoming service. a bit far from the main train station but acceptable distance by a backpacker. as it is in the old town and easy to visit those attractions.

Lovely old hotel with lots of character. While we didn’t use them we liked the lifts from the 1920s. The room was clean and spacious and the bed was very comfortable. The only issue was the room we were in was situated across from a building which had lights on during the night. We had the curtains closed but light still seeped through, disturbing my boyfriend’s sleep. Blackout curtains would be a nice touch but other than that we are very happy with are stay and will be back if we come to Brighton again!

Good location and easy to get around. Hotel was old, tired and dated and in a poor state of repair in various places. The room was also ridiculously warm and for some reason the heating was on full blast all the time. Never a 4 star hotel. Staff friendly and polite

On arrival reception was lovely and staff amazing.However once you get inside the lift it changes drastically.Damp patches everywhere through the hotel and ceiling hanging down in places.We had to change our room as it looked nothing like the pictures on the website.Staff were fantastic and moved us straight away.Second room was not much better as our door was hanging off and nets all ripped but bathroom better than the first one and cleaner.But despite the decor we would definitely stay again and it was fun and our stay in Brighton was fab☺️

I am sorry to hear that your bedroom was not the standard you expected. We pride ourselves on keeping our traditional building in good maintenance order as much as we are able. Still, the high traffic in our 154 rooms does often mean waiting our turn for updating certain areas. For that reason, we have cleaning and maintenance staff on well into the evening and a manager on site 24hrs a day so they can address any immediate issues our guests report. Please be assured that I have noted your comments and will be ensuring they are addressed by the maintenance team as quickly as possible. Firstly the hotel was nice and clean and the gentleman that served me during check in was very nice and informative. The lady during check out was smiley friendly and all round seemed to be a lovely lady and I couldn’t fault the 2 minute interaction I had with her…definitely made a lovely start to my day. Only issue was the parking. When booking it stated there was parking available when I questioned it during check in I was informed that there was limited spaces and all had been booked which meant I had to spend an extra £40 for the lanes car park but understanding that it wasn’t the staffs fault at all I didn’t moan however more spaces would be lovely. Apart from that I couldn’t fault the room, service or facilities. Would potentially stay again :)

We made sure to share this feedback with our employees to give them the recognition they deserve.The Old Ship has the lucky advantage of being able to accommodate a car park for our guests (due to the space in previous years being a stable for horses & reconfigured for cars in the 1920's). Unfortunately, we are unable to expand our carpark size as the configuration of our 464-year-old hotel wouldn't accommodate an expansion. Brighton is a very popular city, and this unfortunately does bring a higher volume of traffic on occasions. Please accept my apologies for this inconvenience though. Not 4 star . Is an aged hotel that desperately requires a makeover. Staff are smart , friendly etc but cleanliness, facilities, decor etc. has all seen better days. Headboards fell off , shower takes 15 minutes to get hot. Beds are rickety .

I visit Brighton every 3 months and I always stay at the old ship hotel as l love every part of my stay the hotel has character charm .the staff are lovely and helpful right across the road from the beach and sea 3 minutes to the pier, super comfy beds always a restful visit thank you so much.

Easy to find right on seafront, hard to park nearby but for £25 per night you can pre book to have your car in the hotels garage down the side of building behind locked shutters. Looked up hotel prior and was excited to use the outdoor terrace, see live music but neither of these were there - must be a summer only thing? :( Still, Loved the general feel, spaces, bar etc Fantastic desk staff very attentive and efficient. Sent a message explaining it was partners birthday if anyone could help make a gesture or something as some places do - sadly didnt get a reply. The Room wasn't like the photos which showed bigger room for the booking i made and paid for, so it was a little disappointing to find it was small but it was pleasant enough and spotless ! The bed was very comfortable. Unfortunately both myself and my partner burnt our shoulder/arm on the radiator in the bathroom as it's awkwardly placed I guess and narrow in there? Overall we were comfortable and happy, we only stayed one night so didn't get to Look around the building much but very happy with the ground floor facilities and location is fab

The tendering process can be lengthy, and as such, we do not have a definite date of when we will be in a position to confirm a date for the work to begin. Pleasant efficient staff. Rooms clean and good value for money. Our room would have benefited from net curtains at the windows as the windows on that side of the hotel are overlooked.. Otherwise everything very good.

Filthy hotel, I have pictures of ripped chair in the reception, dirty socks behind the wardrobe, portable heater and cables all across the tiny restaurant amongst others. I will be contacting Expedia for a refund - would never recommend. Website is not a true picture of what the hotel is really like
