  • The Basilica of the Holy Blood is a Roman Catholic minor basilica in Bruges, Belgium. Originally built in the 12th century as the chapel of the residence of the Count of Flanders, the church houses a venerated relic of the Holy Blood allegedly collected by Joseph of Arimathea and brought from the Holy Land by Thierry of Alsace, Count of Flanders. Built between 1134 and 1157, it was promoted to minor basilica in 1923. The 12th-century basilica is located in the Burg square and consists of a lower and upper chapel. The lower chapel dedicated to St. Basil the Great is a dark Romanesque structure that remains virtually unchanged. The venerated relic is in the upper chapel, which was rebuilt in the Gothic style during the 16th century and renovated multiple times during the 19th century in Gothic Revival style. Bruges is the capital and largest city of the province of West Flanders in the Flemish Region of Belgium, in the northwest of the country. The historic city centre is a prominent World Heritage Site of UNESCO. Along with a few other canal-based northern cities, such as Amsterdam, it is sometimes referred to as The Venice of the North. Bruges has a significant economic importance thanks to its port and was once one of the world's chief commercial cities. Let belt hotel in a great location. Very well equipped room, extremely comfortable bed! We didn’t have breakfast as we thought the 30e per person per day was a bit steep - but we spoke to other guests who advised it was very good.

Booked executive room, just ok. Staff not very experienced to deal with client. We were having a sleep in the afternoon when staff checked on room for the housekeeping. Told we are ok and she still walked in and looked into the room while in bed. Felt so violated. Music from across the street on until gone 3 am. Hence no sleep. Breakfast good

We had a fabulous stay at the Dukes Academie hotel. On arrival the reception area felt very luxurious, and the staff were very welcoming. The room was very clean and comfortable, with the bonus of toiletries and a fridge. The breakfast was amazing, a huge range of items and very fresh and delicious. We would definitely recommend this hotel and feel it's great value for money.

Very nice and modern hotel right near the centre of the city. The only problem was the background music at the hotel, which disturbed our sleep. The bass from the loud speakers was humming loudly and we heard it unfortunately in our room...

Excellent stay! This hotel is situated in the city centre of Bruges, yet away from the very touristy hot spots and in an area with lots of restaurants, fast food options, bars and shops. Very clean room and they surprised us for our anniversary. The breakfast was very tasty and with lots of good options. We will be returning when back to Bruges. We couldn’t have expected anything better!

Hotel was beautiful, staff were lovely, breakfast had so many different options too which was good. Only thing that let the stay down slightly was the bed, it was really uncomfortable and the pillows were very flat so I had to order more to the room.

2nd holiday at this hotel, same great experience and the staff are amazing, nothing is to much for them to do for you. The breakfast is amazing and plenty full. Rooms cleaned every day with everything topped up. Can’t fault this hotel. Looking to book for next year again.
