  • The Basilica of the Holy Blood is a Roman Catholic minor basilica in Bruges, Belgium. Originally built in the 12th century as the chapel of the residence of the Count of Flanders, the church houses a venerated relic of the Holy Blood allegedly collected by Joseph of Arimathea and brought from the Holy Land by Thierry of Alsace, Count of Flanders. Built between 1134 and 1157, it was promoted to minor basilica in 1923. The 12th-century basilica is located in the Burg square and consists of a lower and upper chapel. The lower chapel dedicated to St. Basil the Great is a dark Romanesque structure that remains virtually unchanged. The venerated relic is in the upper chapel, which was rebuilt in the Gothic style during the 16th century and renovated multiple times during the 19th century in Gothic Revival style. Bruges is the capital and largest city of the province of West Flanders in the Flemish Region of Belgium, in the northwest of the country. The historic city centre is a prominent World Heritage Site of UNESCO. Along with a few other canal-based northern cities, such as Amsterdam, it is sometimes referred to as The Venice of the North. Bruges has a significant economic importance thanks to its port and was once one of the world's chief commercial cities. Hotel de Orangerie is beautifully located, making it easy to enjoy the charm of the city. The room was cozy and comfortable, perfect for a relaxing stay. While the bathroom layout was a bit unconventional and took some getting used to, everything was clean and well-maintained. The staff couldn't have been more attentive, the entrance, common area with the lounge and dining room spectacular. The views from the antique windows were magical. Honestly, the common areas are as you would hope for such a magical historical place, the location was excellent, very walkable but quiet on a side street with the patio along the canal. It was really just our room - and not that the bed was not very comfortable, the sheets and amenities of coffee in your room and water - but for the SLH and the cost, I had hoped it would be a bit more kept with the walls, carpet and furniture.

This hotel is quaint and charming. The staff are accommodating and polite. I booked the basic room without fully reading that it’s at the entrance of the hotel. Still a charming room but the noise from the street and sliding doors kept me up. They were able to upgrade me for a small fee. Both rooms were clean, comfy and had everything you’d need. Highly recommend this hotel.

Very nice hotel! My room had a canal view! The room was very quant and had a nice ambiance of old Bruge! The bathroom was very large and modern with a great shower! The bed was one of the best I’ve ever slept in! I highly recommend this hotel!
