Mackenzie Pass Retreat is a pet-friendly farm stay on Bauchops Hill Station, a high-country station on the edge of the Mackenzie Basin, within reach of Lake Tekapo. Walk the farm tracks, borrow a bike, buy eggs from the farm, and hear the story of James Mackenzie from the people who work this land. Four tiny houses here can be booked together, and there is no mobile signal at all.

The Space:
Mackenzie Pass Retreat by Tiny Away is a quiet farm stay on Bauchops Hill Station near Burkes Pass, about an hour from Timaru. It looks out across the valley and rolling hills, with sheep and cattle as your neighbours.

For a closer look at station life, this working farm offers authentic country experiences. The hosts can take you on a farm tour or a 4WD trip around the property, sharing stories about James Mackenzie and the station's history along the way. Fresh farm eggs and meal ingredients are also available to purchase on site.

For an active escape, use the farm map to explore the walking tracks or rent one of the two available bikes. Travelling with friends or family? Three additional tiny houses on the property can be booked alongside this one for a shared station getaway.

After a day outdoors, settle into the 139-square-foot tiny house, complete with split-system air conditioning, a kitchenette with cooking equipment, and a bathroom with a cassette toilet, hand basin and gas-heated shower.

A Few Things to Know: For a group stay, Avalanche Creek Cabin, Airstrip Stays and Tussock Views can also be booked with 24 hours' notice. Farm tours and 4WD experiences are subject to seasonal conditions and the station's daily operations.F

Guest Access:
Guests will have access to the tiny home and the farm depending on time of year and farming operations. We provide a farm map with hazards and no go zones, indicating where walking tracks are detailed.

Preorders are available with 24hrs notice:

- 2 Bikes are available for rental at $25 each a day.
- Breakfast and meal ingredients can be purchased such as fresh farm eggs and etc.
- A maximum of one pet is permitted. Additional pets are subject to a fee of NZ$40 per pet, per stay.
- 4WD and Farm Tour activities are available on the property. Please notify the host upon your arrival about the availability.
- If you plan to bring a pet, kindly inform us in advance. This allows us time to prepare the travel kennel and ensure a smooth and comfortable stay for both you and your companion.

The Neighborhood:
Mackenzie Pass Retreat by Tiny Away is on Bauchops Hill Station near Burkes Pass, surrounded by the beautiful countryside of South Canterbury. As a pet-friendly farm stay on the doorstep of the Mackenzie Basin, it's a lovely spot to slow down, enjoy the open landscapes and take in the star-filled skies after dark.

Make a day trip to Lake Tekapo and unwind in the hot pools at Tekapo Springs, or head to Mt Dobson and Roundhill ski fields for some winter fun. If you enjoy exploring on foot, take in the scenic surroundings of Opihi Gorge, Cowans Hill or Kakahu. For a little local flavour, stop by Fairlie Bakehouse for a freshly baked pie or browse the treasures at Three Creeks Antique Shop in Burkes Pass.

Getting Around:
By car:

- From Christchurch, it is 2.5 hours from the airport to Bauchops Hill Station.
- From Timaru, it is 1 hour from the airport to Bauchops Hill Station.

Other Things to Note:
- Wifi is available
- Gas BBQ grill is available
- No unregistered guests or visitors are allowed
- Smoking is allowed only in the designated area outside the tiny home
- Mobile reception is unavailable across all networks, but Wi-Fi calling is available.
- We would like to advise guests that longer stays or later check-outs will incur an additional charge
- For your safety and to prevent power tripping, we advise avoiding the use of multiple appliances and sockets simultaneously.

Notice to All Fur Parents/Owners;

- Pets are limited to only (1) pet per stay, and additional pets may incur an extra fee. As this is a pet-friendly property, the full pet policy will be shared before arrival. Please keep your pet on a leash at all times during your stay.

Important note:

- Keep in mind that BBQ grills and outdoor fire pits are not available during a total fire ban
- For stays of 5 nights or more (or for bookings of 5 nights or more), an additional cleaning fee will be collected to help maintain the cassette toilet and ensure a clean and fresh experience for all guests. We appreciate your understanding.
