Stump Cross A crossroads of byways at the top of Pitcombe Hill looking pretty much as it would have 200 years ago. The fields would have had different crops, the hedgerows perhaps better kept and the road has probably made up a few times since then. These old tracks are good for walking with excellent views from here. A tough mountain bike with low gears and GOOD BRAKES would be useful. Also OS Explorer Map 142 as a guide.

Only a one night stay before flying out of Bristol Airport. Very welcoming, excellent evening meal, very comfortable room. Unfortunately we had to leave before breakfast but I’m sure that would have been good too! Very convenient for the airport.

Set in beautiful surroundings with lots of walks on your doorstep and two local dog friendly pubs that serve food. The owners are lovely and helpful in person and replied to our messages very quickly before we came. The accommodation is very clean and really cosy, dog friendly being a plus. Will ...

HMP Shepton Mallet, sometimes known as Cornhill, is a former prison located in Shepton Mallet, Somerset, England. When it closed in 2013, it was the United Kingdom's oldest operating prison, and had been since the closure of HMP Lancaster Castle in 2011. Before closure Shepton Mallet was a category C lifer prison holding 189 prisoners. The prison building is grade II* listed, while the former gatehouse and perimeter walls are grade II. It is also reported to be the most haunted prison in England. Take a tour around this amazing establishment steeped in history, guided by a former prison officer - certainly worth a visit.
