** We've just completed a major renovation of Ship's Light! Having stood the test of time for almost 200 years, the house now has a new foundation, upgraded systems and a modified floor plan. We've worked had to maintain the character and charm of the antique home, while bringing it up to modern standards. We can't wait for renters to experience the results for the 2025 summer season and beyond!
The layout of the Prince Harding remains the same, but it has been entirely refreshed, with air conditioning and heating provided by solar-powered heat pumps. There is a cozy electric fireplace in the sitting area, an improved kitchen and bath with tiled shower, and a new queen-sized bed and furnishings in the living area. The house is equipped with two Level 2 EV chargers, for use by renters. Check out the new photos, but note that reviews prior to July 2025 are of the old apartment. Ship’s Light has looked down Cross Street to Chatham Village Center for almost 200 years. Built and occupied by some of Chatham’s most eminent residents since 1825, it was converted to four housekeeping apartments for summer visitors circa 1945. Named for the original owner and builder of Ship's Light, the Prince Harding apartment is a one-room studio, with a kitchenette, bath with shower and lovely front porch. Airy and light, the main room includes a queen-sized bed, dining table & chairs, comfortable seating area, electric fireplace, and smart-TV with streaming access to network channels. Wireless internet service is available throughout the house. Perfect for a couple, the fully-equipped kitchenette has a small refrigerator with freezer, induction cook-top, microwave, toaster, and coffee maker. Enjoy your morning coffee on the private front porch with your loved one or watch the sunset while sipping a glass of wine. The charm of the apartment is further enhanced by the warm glow of newly-laid wide pine and antique floors.
Centrally located within a short walking distance of excellent Chatham dining, shopping, movies and band concerts, the house is three blocks from the town salt water beach on Oyster Pond, and one mile from Coast Guard Beach, a great stretch of Atlantic Ocean and dunes. The Prince Harding apartment at Ship’s Light is rented for longer stays during the summer and for minimum two night stays during the shoulder and off-seasons. Other units with unique features are also available and the whole house can be rented as a 5-bedroom home for family gatherings.
