  • The second oldest building remaining on The Ohio State University campus, Orton Hall was opened in 1893. It is named after Dr Edward Orton, Sr. who served as Ohio State's first president, OSU Professor of Geology from 1873 to 1899, and Ohio's State Geologist from 1882 until his death in 1899. We were awakened around 8am by loud voices in the hallway. It took a few minutes to realize it was housekeeping. They parked their carts on both sides of our door and stayed in the hallway singing loudly. The singing carried on so long that we couldn’t fall back to sleep. After checking the peephole, we realized she was in the room across the hall with the door open. Some people go to hotels and hope to actually sleep in, especially when check out isn’t until 11am. Housekeeping should consider this and try to be a bit quieter in the mornings.

I liked the price and not far from different attractions and shopping. Only problems we had for our stay is that the when we arrived, my two rooms were down the hall from each other, which I called and requested rooms closer. One of my party was in a w/c and needed help close by. The room that she was in, the door catch was broken and beeping on and off throughout the night. The staff was notified and got us moved the next day after some guest checked out. We really appreciated that, and the room change was closer to the other room.

Stayed one night. The rooms are nicely updated and our room was clean. This is an extended stay hotel so there was a lot of construction workers and lots of construction vehicles. The lobby was nothing to write home about and I would not likely going jogging in this area. It served our purposes and the price was right.

Property appeared recently remodeled, but done kind of half hearted. Everything felt kind of vaguely dirty. Surrounding hotels hosted some unsavory long term guests, lots of screaming and fighting next door.

Air Fresheners does not make a clean hotel

The hotel uses tons of air fresheners to cover up the fact that the place is not very clean. Go into the stair well and you can see how poorly the property is maintained. The area around the hotel is very sketchy at best. Had I seen the area overall with many closed up hotels I would have never stayed there. Lots of closed up properties. My 1st room the door did not lock. I had to go back and get another room. Then they tried to charge me an extra 75.00. I had to go to my CC company to dispute the charge. Save your time, spend a little more at a better hotel in a better area.

So we get there and are surprised by the cleaning fee deposit. The guy checking us in didn’t hand me my ID back, just threw it on the counter at me. There is plastic wrapped all around the smoke detector when we get there and the fridge wasn’t working so they had to come in and figure that out. There was dirt on the floors, dark hair on the bed (we’re blonds) and hair in the toilet. We had stayed here before the remodel and the staff were friendlier and it was no hassle. This time? We will never book this hotel again. Only chose it because it was close to a concert venue we go to. Very disappointed. Walls are paper thin, heard children screaming all morning.
