Disappointed
We haven't stayed at the Cove for a couple of years and we're surprised at the the off season pricing but decided to go anyway. The place is showing its age! Tiles missing and obvious water damage on the exterior, cracked grout and wobbly tiles in the bathroom, gas fireplace that wouldn't turn off, dripping ceiling on the balcony. The entertainment system is sad and difficult to maneuver. They have discontinued their complimentary breakfast and don't not even have coffee In the lobby. Our room was not made up after the first night either. Still an amazing view but disappointing the details.

A property such as this one is constantly being maintained, however any location like this faces challenges from weather and normal wear and tear. We are also disappointed we have been unable to resume breakfast service, but the effects of the pandemic linger. We hope to have any of the issues you detailed resolved should you elect to return. If not, we wish you well.

Nice location
Whale Cove Inn is very strategically located near Depoe Bay, Oregon, with easy access to Depoe Bay and several local beaches. While the accommodations were quite nice with a nice view of the cove, we felt it was overpriced for what was offered. (I did not comparison shop, so perhaps this is the going rate for the area.) Due to COVID, there was no housekeeping, no breakfast buffet, etc., so it was hard to rate service other than okay. The inn itself seemed in need of some maintenance or renovation as there was peeling exterior paint, dirty fountain ponds in front, cracked sidewalk in back leading to deck, the jacuzzi tub on deck seemed rather dated and it was not clean. Our room was mostly clean, but minor things like lots of dirt in slider track, etc. The bed was very comfortable. The bar area and refrigerator was nice. Especially with COVID, a microwave would have been very convenient.

Great Hotel and Gorgeous Location
The views from the room were excellent - it helped that we had perfect sunny days in April but even in the rain this view would be impeccable. The room was great and the bed was very comfortable.

So-So for me
This was a tricky one to review. I personally don’t believe the cost is worth the hotel. I got the premier suite and didn’t understand why two of the bedrooms and one of the bathrooms was locked in the suite I paid for. Hotels.com, where I got the reservation said I would get three bedrooms and two bathrooms in the suite. I did ask the front desk personnel and he said the hotel keeps the other two bedrooms and one bathroom locked unless we have more than two people in our party, (but at that point the suite itself would cost even more). That seemed to me to be really ridiculous. I decided to go on hotels.com and put in 4 guests, requested the same suite and it was THE SAME PRICE I paid, so the front desk personnel were dishonest with me. The fireplace is pretty much a joke, it’s a plug in fireplace that has an hour long timer. For the cost, you guys should be able to install a full fireplace. There is also not a full size kitchen, no oven, which I had been looking forward to so I could could breakfast. No breakfast at the hotel. The wonderful things about the hotel are the shower, it’s the best I’ve ever experienced. The bathtub on the deck is so wonderful too- even in the cold weather it is a good contrast to the hot water in the tub. The view is beautiful. The sounds from the ocean are wonderful in the relaxing tub. The bed is also really comfortable, but I prefer harder beds, it’s not super hard, but decently hard. I’m not sure if I would stay here again.

Hello and thank you for your comments. Whale Cove is an exclusive couple's retreat with pricing based on double occupancy. All units, other than the Premier Suite accommodate only 2 persons. For an extra per-person fee, the Premier Suite can accommodate up to 6 adults across 3 bedrooms. For 2 person reservations like yours, Whale Cove keeps the extra bedrooms and baths locked. We do not understand why Hotels.com failed to show the extra person charge. This is an ongoing policy we've had for 12 years. It's good for Whale Cove to have the Premier Suite's occupant flexibility when needed. Unfortunately, during the current pandemic, Whale Cove cannot offer its breakfast buffet. We reviewed your invoice, and we found the $40 discount offered to all guests had been applied to your account. All reservations receive at least 2 separate confirmations explaining the current COVID restrictions. As Lincoln County and State modify the COVID-19 restrictions, Whale Cove may return to its normal breakfast service, but that schedule is unknown at this time. Should you decide to return, we recommend one of our Signature Suites. Those are perfect for 2 persons and are more affordably priced. Safe Travels,

An amazing location that needs updates
Location is king at the Whale Cove Inn. The living spaces are enormous and well laid out. That said, the furniture and carpeting are dated, and the amenities do not justify a $500+ per night stay. Keurig coffee maker with coffee mate. Cheap wine and cocktail glassware. Rusted out lock on the glass sliding doors that wouldn’t lock.

You really can’t find more fantastic accommodations on the OR coast than Whale Cove Inn, just a hop south of Depoe Bay. Luxurious, beautifully appointed w/superior design, comfort & an exceptional, devoted staff. Becks dining, inside Whale Cove is manned by an adventurous, exceptional chef. The pastry chef produces lush, fresh delights daily for one of the most varied & delicious complimentary breakfast. Every conceivable detail is taken into account to create a completely satisfactory experience that will please all but the most persnickety guest. Four days is barely enough time to enjoy all the offerings Whale Cove Inn provides. peaceful and large suites
stunning views and peaceful. A little disorganized at breakfast (ran out of coffee cups said they only had 12!) but rooms very spacious and relaxing. Evening staff was friendly on phone, morning staff had a bit of a snobby energy and not much to do in direct area unless you drive but room and views enough to make you want to go again.

We had a wonderful stay at Whale Cove Inn. I've stayed at many hotels for both fun and work, and this was one of the best. The suite was very comfortable and spacious with all the great "extras" - soft cookies waiting for us on the counter, chilled bottled water, bottles of wine we could purchase, a fireplace, fabulous bath products, and a huge shower. My favorite part was the huge balcony with the spectacular view of the bay. We also had dinner at the restaurant and it was fabulous. The staff at dinner and throughout the hotel were so friendly and welcoming. We'd love to come back!

We love staying here. The rooms have an excellent view of the bay. It's quiet, cozy - price is a little high but worth the extra money for wonderful memories! Love the fireplace, big shower with 3 different heads, hot tub on the balcony & you can see the bay from the bed when you wake-up. We love Lincoln City & Newport, Depot Bay is between both.

Beautifuly Romantic Inn
Beautiful place to stay at the beach. Very private, quiet, and tranquil. Had a big issue with the shower but staff handled it perfectly. Love the outdoor jacuzzi on the private deck. Felt like we were the only ones staying there.

Whoever came up with the tub on the balcony of your room...Genius!! This place is relaxing, quiet, staff is amazing, and the view is to die for! The breakfast was really good and set up very nice. Ate in the restaurant there, Beck. We were not impressed. A lot of show and money for things that were not that good. Maybe, it's just that it wasn't our cup of tea. 5 Star views and restaurant, Inn lacks something..
The views of Whale Cove are amazing, if you are a whale watcher, Depot Bay is the place for you. Room was spacious, clean, and decor was simple and modern. On the downside the room lacked any sort of utensils for prepping cheese and crackers or fruit for all that wine you'll be enjoying. We also thought it was odd to have a wine cooler in the room, but no standard frig. If you stay on the first floor, expect people from the deck below and lawn area to be able to see you, which for my wife was a privacy issue. Especially when the jacuzzi tub is on the outside deck. Note to all, request a non first floor room. Breakfast staff and service was great. Restaurant Beck is certainly the highlight of the Inn. 7 plate tasting with wine pairing is highly recommended. Overall, the views and Beck are absolutely 5 star, but the Inn is lacking the finishing touches to justify the high price.

Spectaculer view and grounds
The view was breathtaking and our room was very comfortable didn't want to leave. But the grounds were well kept too and nice for walking. This is definitely an adults only get away which is awesome no noise and nice and clean. Their continental breakfast in the morning is wonderful far above average. Yes it is expensive but worth it if you want to spoil yourself.
