About this property

The Old Rectory & the Coach House, North Tuddenham, Norfolk

  • The Old Rectory and the Coach House are self catering holiday cottages which stand in their own parkland next to the church surrounded by open countryside, a mile from North Tuddenham in Norfolk. The original rectory dated from the 16th century and the poet William Cowper stayed here when he first came to Norfolk. It was replaced in 1852 by Rev Barry, younger brother of the architect of the Houses of Parliament, who designed it himself. The holiday home has been refurbished to provide a luxury self catering venue for family gatherings. It is easily accessed from the A47, half a mile away.

The Old Rectory is set in idyllic surroundings with grounds covering 12.5 acres. There are large areas of lawn interspersed with mature shrubs and trees. The grounds also include a west facing terrace, ideal for summer barbecues, a pond (this has been fenced making it childproof), and a children's football area with two goals. The Old Rectory is an ideal outdoor holiday break with its own wood: a pathway marked by an avenue of yew trees which leads to clearings planted with bluebells, foxgloves and primroses and ideal picnic spots. The Coach House is situated in a courtyard through original 10' high wrought iron gates next to The Old Rectory, sleeping fourteen on its own.

Family Celebration

Overall we had a lovely weekend celebrating family birthdays. Both the Rectory and Coach house had plenty of room to accommodate everyone. Sadly the Rectory is in desperate need of a spring clean. Whilst bedding, bathrooms and facilities had been cleaned. The kitchen cupboards and overall cleanliness of the property was very disappointing and not of a high standard. Doors and woodwork need a good clean and items such as light fittings need to be dusted. This said we enjoyed our stay very much. The grounds are lovely and the extra touch of tennis court and table tennis is an added bonus.

Family reunion of 20 people different generations.

The houses and gardens were lovely and immaculately maintained. At the same time it welcoming and homely, the owner very helpful and accessible. For everyone, an unforgettable holiday in perfect surroundings.

Simply stunning!

We arrived in the dark at this beautiful house but it was so inviting from the moment we pulled up outside. The layout is perfect, catering not only for a warm and cozy stay in the lounge rooms and breakfast room but also had a wonderful party in the stunning dining room! All bedrooms are beautiful with super comfy beds and lovely white linen. The only thing that was a slight let down was the water pressure in the bathrooms! It was very low which made for a bit of a tedious shower each morning! The grounds and gardens are lovely with a church practically outside the front door! Peaceful and quiet and we have all decided to return again for the next big celebration!
