We had a wonderful vacation in Durango staying at this property. We loved the location - gorgeous views, peace and quiet, and lots of space for our teenage kids to run around with the dog. The house was comfortable and had all that we needed. I enjoyed the beautiful kitchen and bathroom. I wish we could have stayed for a month!

Fall Getaway

Visited Durango this past week and enjoyed our time at this cabin. It's close to town but feels like you're in the middle of the mountains. Lots of wildlife each day including elk and turkeys. Great kitchen and outdoor space. Plenty of room for family...definitely a peaceful retreat. Small fenced yard was perfect for dogs. Highly recommend!

Durango with Hank and kids

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We had simply a wonderful winter vacation at the cozy Rockhouse! It was very well equipped with all we needed! Loved the surrounding views and the privacy of the 3 acres. Our doodle Hank enjoyed the ability to explore the property and play in the snow as did our 4 year old grandson! We were treated every morning and evening to a large group of turkeys making their way to and from roosting! Everyone loved the steam shower!! Convenient location to town or Purgatory. Very comfortable beds and beautiful renovated kitchen.

Rock House rocks!

The location was ideal, close to grocery store and very convenient for accessing hiking between Durango and Silverton. The large expanse of grass was perfect for our pup, it even has a dog run with doggy door. Great communication from management.

Rockhouse

This property is wonderful. The setting is perfect, it is clean, well stocked with cooking and bath items and makes for a very restful quite vacation. We have been here twice now and have made reservation for next year. This is truly home away from home.

Amazing home and views

This home was amazing and we will definitely be staying here again. We loved the updated bathrooms and big kitchen. The views and stream that ran through the yard was so beautiful and our kids enjoyed running around. Their were a lot of dead bugs in the kitchen and their was mice poop in the main bedroom on the bedding and side table.

Wonderful stay in the mountains

Honestly, this is the best rental property we've ever stayed at. You're about 20 minutes north of Durango, but very close to the highway and it's easy to get to town or north to Purgatory/Silverton. The property has a full kitchen with all of the kitchen-y stuff you'd need (honestly, we were taking pictures of things in this kitchen we want to add to our own house). There's a full gas/propane dual fuel grill as well out back. The yard is perfect for your four legged friends, and the rest of the house is great for a longer-term stay (great bathrooms -- jacuzzi tub) and the laundry units in the basement. But what really sets this property apart is the responsiveness of the VRC staff. We got in pretty late, but they still checked in on us to make sure that we got in the house okay, and they were responsive via text the whole time we were there. We're definitely going to be making a return visit!

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This was our 3rd summer staying at the rock house. I can not imagine a more perfect place to stay. It is stocked with all the kitchen silverware, utensils, pots pans and dishes one could want. The bedrooms bathrooms and sitting areas are very well done and very clean and neat. The setting is fantastic with places for the dog and a covered outside area to suit all your needs. It is very private, quiet, and secure with a large lawn in the front and back. All of which is perfectly maintained. This is definitely a 5 star vacation home.

Awesome location

Off the beaten path but perfect for us with our 4 wheeled drive vehicle in the winter. The house is beautifully remodeled and the bathrooms and kitchen are great. The only comment I would have is less glass size tables in the master bedroom. They just don’t have much space to put glasses and water on. Staff was friendly and the house was very clean. Highly recommend if you like having space.

Beautiful, clean and centrally located

We loved our stay at the Rock House. The property was absolutely beautiful and had all the necessities needed for our 6 night stay with 4 adults and 2 kids. The owners were super nice and available if needed and kept the walkway clear of snow. The recently renovated kitchen was very clean and stocked with many dishes so we could make our own meals. Bedrooms were very comfortable after a long day of skiing and firewood was provided. We loved watching deer and turkey on the property. The heaters on the patio were a nice extra and put to use. We chose this property because it was convenient to town and Purgatory. It’s clear the owners take a lot of pride in this house and it felt like home. We will be back!

Stellar Summer Getaway

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This was an amazing getaway in Durango, CO. It was a perfect 3 acre private space with plenty of room for our party of 5. We enjoyed cooking and baking in the well appointed kitchen. The outside space was phenomenal and even our dog loved their fenced in space to roam around. Lots of wildlife sightings (deer and turkey). Would definitely recommend this place and would definitely stay again! Owners are not far down the road, but not intrusive. Very pleasant people! The management company is also very attentive but not intrusive. 5/5 stars for us.

Rock House Retreat

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The Rock House is in an amazing area for a peaceful retreat! Views and plenty of space to relax inside and out. We were able to easily get into Durango in less than 15 min. There is a gourmet grocery store up the road as well as a few restaurants in the area. The gourmet kitchen was a treat to prepare meals and was stocked beyond basics. During our stay, the kitchen was a bit cold compared to the rest of the house. We had an issue with the oven, but the property company was responsive and had repair crew out next eve. The fireplace with stocked wood provided cozy fires in the evenings after exploring. Beds were beyond comfy and many luxury amenities in the bathrooms. Wifi worked great for planning out activities. A side note the TV does not offer streaming - it does offer plenty of channels though and was not an issue for us. A guidebook with clear instructions for the home would be a nice addition as we spent some time trying to figure a few things out. Check out was a little unclear due to messages from two different sources. The keypad was a little tricky for us, but a quick phone call took care of it. The amount of the extra fees made the rate not as affordable for us. Overall, we appreciated such a lovely place to stay and the time the property management company took to help us with a last minute booking - Recommended stay!

Disappointed

I always like to do my reviews as a good, the bad, and the ugly. Please read until the ugly. The Good: The property was beautiful and serene. It really was a place you’d love to take you family. A stone cottage off the beaten path in Colorado. The property was huge. The home was meticulously remodeled and every need you’d imagine was covered. The contract we signed mentioned multiple times there was no AC, but the heat was more than adequate and the attic fan cooled the home very well. The bad: nothing conventional. The ugly: I have rented multiple homes over the years and I am a VRBO owner and own rental properties. While some people do not mnd renting a room or like to meet the owner, I am not one of them. I rent homes so that I can bring my dog and have the home to myself. The listing multiple times listed privacy at the home, but that was not my experience. The first morning I went to get some food and when I came home there were two men in the backyard. The property owner lives on the adjacent property and he was there. He told me he was just watering the lawn. He seemed nice and I thought it was a one time deal. It was not. He was always lurking around. That first day he had sprinklers going in the backyard to the point it was unusable. There was a golf course type sprinkler going in the front yard that covered so much area that it was unusable. He came back later on his ATV and moved it so that the end of the concerete pathway at the front was unusable. I have two small children and the point of renting this home was for them to be able to run around and enjoy the property, however every day their movement was restricted by the owner being around and his sprinklers. The third day it became unbearable (the 2nd day was a repeat of the 1st). I was on vacation and hoping to sleep in, but at 9 am I was woke up by the property owner on his riding lawnmower. When I got in the shower I was watching him in the backyard trying not to watch me in the shower. It would be hilarious if it wasn’t so ridiculous. When I took my children outside he was moving his huge sprinkler to another area. I had to keep my children on the porch to avoid the front yard sprinkler and keep distancing. He had another sprinkler going in the patio area. When I have a tenant I can’t be on the property, that’s the law. He was there every day. My family felt like our privacy was violated. I feel like I should have a refund for a weekend was essentially wasted.
