  • Waldron Lookout, accessible via a spur trail at 1.5 miles up the northern trail. Turtleback Mountain is a wilderness-preservation success story. Recently the target of a development effort on Orcas Island, a popular weekend destination for people from Seattle, it was saved from that fate largely by the efforts of one man and his organization, Tim Seifert, executive director of the San Juan Preservation Trust. Thanks to their work, the mountain is now a wilderness area, in perpetuity. As a bonus, a network of trails is now available to allow hikers and sight-seers a chance to explore the mountain. The trails are beautiful and serene and not nearly as crowded as those on the more popular Mount Constitution, which sits on the other side of the island. There are just a few open viewpoints, such as this one, but they do pack a punch. Beyond that, the forest scenery is just fantastic.

Great Forest Getaway

Artist Studio stay

Very quiet and secluded studio on Orcas Island. The studio was about 10 minutes from the ferry terminal and 20 minutes away from Eastsound. The room was comfortable and quiet. Perfect for anyone wanting to get away from the city and spend some time in a beautiful part of the Pacific Northwest.

Peaceful stay

Beautiful property and cozy stay. Studio is attached to main house but separated by a garage/work space so felt very private. So nice to sit in the big bay window and look out into the trees.

charming

Wonderful little place off the beaten path, felt right at home playing fetch with Marley the resident dog. The artwork around the property as well as inside the room provided a lovely whimsical touch that made the stay memorable.

Adorable little ethical rental.

We loved this location and had an amazing time! We especially loved the hosts dog, a friendly boxer who is usually around to greet you during your comings and goings.

Quiet, serene apartment

Private little efficiency apartment in a serene, lovely wooded area. Very close to the ferry entrance, and away from the hectic traffic, etc. of the town. The full sized bed was comfortable. Enough room for the two of us for two nights. Visited Mt. Constitution in Moran State Park which was amazing! Great hikes and beautiful views.

Quiet, wooded property

The feel of camping but with comfort of beds, windows, hot shower, kitchenette and screens! As close to camping as I care to get anymore! Owner lives on site with his boxer and loves dogs! Perfect for them to run loose. A few short miles from the ferry. Easy drive anywhere on the island. A very enjoyable stay

Peace in the woods

Property location was relaxing and quiet. It is a bit out of town but not far from the ferry terminal. Probably best to arrive before dark, as location might be tricky to find. The owner and his dog were inviting and friendly. FYI...there are some resident sugar ants.

2 night stay with dog

Quiet place; the listing matches the property. The owner has a friendly boxer dog that was there to meet us. We had a dog ourselves, owners dog is very playful/friendly. I may offer a suggestion of keeping up on the dog poop in the yard. There was a significant amount of dog poop in the yard, which may be expected for your own residence but not necessarily a rental where other dogs are expected to be present.

Clean. Fun artwork. Nice bed. Well supplied kitchen, though we didn't use it. Nice bathroom. Eclectic collection of books. It would be nice to have hooks on wall or a coat tree for coats, especially if it's rainy. There's a perfect spot next to fridge. (We didn't want to use the cleaning closet.)

This is the perfect place for a get away to Orcas. It’s close to the ferry and an easy drive to East Sound, Moran State Park and Olga. Just the right size for a couple or solo traveler and dog friendly! On site pup is super friendly and our dog had a blast playing with her.
