  • Waldron Lookout, accessible via a spur trail at 1.5 miles up the northern trail. Turtleback Mountain is a wilderness-preservation success story. Recently the target of a development effort on Orcas Island, a popular weekend destination for people from Seattle, it was saved from that fate largely by the efforts of one man and his organization, Tim Seifert, executive director of the San Juan Preservation Trust. Thanks to their work, the mountain is now a wilderness area, in perpetuity. As a bonus, a network of trails is now available to allow hikers and sight-seers a chance to explore the mountain. The trails are beautiful and serene and not nearly as crowded as those on the more popular Mount Constitution, which sits on the other side of the island. There are just a few open viewpoints, such as this one, but they do pack a punch. Beyond that, the forest scenery is just fantastic.

This was the perfect place to stay for Thanksgiving for a group of 7--it was cozy with fantastic views, very well-accommodated (we cooked our entire Thanksgiving meal in the kitchen!), and tucked away in a sleepier part of the island. The bedrooms were big and comfortable, there were multiple places to sit and read a book or enjoy a meal, and the hot tub was perfect for the chilly, rainy days. Sherri was very communicative during our stay. I can't recommend this place enough!

We expected a nice property but were blown away with the serenity, beauty and privacy of this house. We spent a week here and everyday we woke up to a peaceful morning in nature and every evening we experienced magical evening light and unforgettable sunsets while watching the sea birds and seals just off shore. Thank you for sharing your special property with us. We also highly recommend contacting Kenmore Aviation for a seaplane tour and visiting other islands with them. The beauty of the San Juan’s from the air is incredible and it’s a short flight to Victoria BC.

Wow what an amazing home! Everything we needed and wanted for our stay was here. The beach was sandy and walkable in both directions. The out door space with the grill and fire table were perfect each evening. And the beds so comfy. Plenty of books and games and the decor was impeccable. Thank you so much for sharing your home with us.
