“Wonderful place to stay, we loved that the area was in a real neighborhood and not touristy. The only complaint is the main bedroom faces a an alley that has a motion activated light that shines bright on and off all night while you are trying to sleep. Dark shade would help this situation. ”

“Beautiful traditional machiya very close to transit and walkable to many places. Laundry on the corner and grocery around the block. The stairs to the second floor were quite steep and the first floor could have used some more furniture, but really no real complaints ”

“It's a nice place to experience the traditional Japanese living house. It's good to have 3 sizable beds for 3 persons. The room is clean and quite spacious. Shopping areas, good restaurants, convenience store and metro station can be found in a few minutes walking distance from the house. ”

“We loved our stay at Gion Ryokan! The staff were so lovely, the bed pads were comfortable, and we enjoyed having access to a full kitchen. “We had a fantastic time here. Our host greeted us upon arrival and asked if we would like to participate in an authentic tea ceremony. We got dressed in provided outfits, and the kids loved making matcha tea with the host. We loved the two levels, the indoor and outdoor baths, and the washing machine (kids use up a lot of clothes). We've been touring Asia, and this was one of the nicest places we've visited during our travels, especially while travelling with kids. Everything seemed to……

“We loved our stay overall. The place was beautiful and spacious, and the architectural details and lighting were lovely. There was only 1 bed, which was a little disappointing to our adult children. Other places we’ve stayed in Japan have specified if a bedroom had only mats, but this listing indicated beds in all 3 bedrooms. It was still a nice place to stay. I only mention this to suggest that the listing could be more accurate if it was clear that only bedroom 1 has a true bed. ”
