Wherever you're jetting in from, flying can be a pleasurable experience if you've planned ahead. Check out these handy tips and tricks that will get your Basti escape started on the right foot. What to pack in your hand luggage:
- The trick to having a great travel experience is to plan ahead. Start with the essentials: passport, boarding pass, credit cards and medications. Next, bring on board items that'll help while away those hours, like some electronic gadgets or a juicy novel. It's also wise to pack your chargers, a neck pillow and a pair of noise-canceling headphones. Finally, be sure to squeeze in toiletries like a toothbrush, deodorant and a spare set of clothes.
Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:
- Check carefully that you don't have a pocket knife hiding in your carry-on luggage. Other prohibited items include flammable or explosive goods, such as aerosol cans and bleach, and gels and liquids in containers with a volume of more than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters).
What to wear on a flight:
- The long, narrow aisles of a plane are no place for a fashion parade. Layer up with comfortable clothing and pack a cardigan as it can get quite cool inside the cabin during long-haul flights. Flat, enclosed shoes are also recommended.
- Unfortunately, one risk of flying long distances is developing deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clotting condition caused by prolonged periods of inactivity. To avoid this, take every opportunity to stretch your legs and walk around the cabin. Compression socks and tights are another easy way to help lower your risk.
