We've got the lowdown on how to make your journey as pain-free as possible. Follow our top tips and you'll be cruising through airport security and discovering Rochester in no time flat. What to pack in your hand luggage:
- Flying can be a pleasure if you pack the right things. First things first, you'll need basic toiletries, such as a toothbrush and hairbrush, a spare change of clothes and a few magazines. Secondly, make room in your bag for your phone, tablet and chargers, any daily medications and perhaps a cosy neck pillow as well. Lastly, and most importantly, be sure to bring your passport, travel papers and some cash.
Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:
- Put all your full-sized bottles of shampoo and hairspray in your checked luggage. Any gels or liquids in your carry-on suitcase larger than 3.4 ounces (100 millilitres) will be confiscated by security. Pointed or sharp objects, like a Swiss Army knife, and dangerous goods which are flammable or explosive, such as aerosol cans, flares and matches, are also not allowed.
What to wear on a flight:
- You'll want to choose comfort over style. Prepare for temperature changes in the cabin by wearing layers, and opt for flat, enclosed footwear like slip-ons.
- Caused by sustained periods of immobility, deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a blood clotting condition that can affect some passengers on long-haul flights. Reduce the risks by drinking water, keeping your feet and legs moving and wearing compression socks to help your circulation.
