Charming old home in the woods
We needed a place to relax after a day of snowmobiling in Gaylord and this home fit the bill perfectly. Spacious and charming it was like we were time-warped back to the 50's/60's. The original cabin, along with the addition, allowed the four of us plenty of room for sleeping and lounging. It was a pleasure to meet the owner and get the history of the property. He was very informative and easily accessible if needed. Our winter trip was awesome and I know we'll be back in the summer to enjoy the lake. Overall a great weekend in a great home!

Snowmobile weekend
We had a great experience at the cabin. This is a rustic cabin with all the patina of its history. I grew up going to a cabin just like this. The host was very accommodating, making sure the house was warm when we arrived at 1:00am in the morning. There was plenty of parking for sleds and trailers. Trail head was at the end of the drive. If you want a place that's warm, comfortable, and to relax with your friends, you have a great place. If you have issues the family is close by to help out in any way they can. This is what I expect of a well mature northern Michigan cabin. We will stay there again, as long as the snow holds out for the season. Being off the beaten path gives you a nice seclusion from the hotel scene. Was a great time. Appreciated all your help Rokko.

Rustic cabin with nice trails
It was nice to get away from home, however there were a few things we didn’t love. The cabin is rustic, which we are perfectly ok with, however it definitely hadn’t been cleaned in some time. A lot of dust, cobwebs in doorways, and dried food on the table cloth. The property itself could be amazing and beautiful, however there are numerous piles of trash, cans, old building supplies, etc. From the description it sounded like there was just one other rental nearby however, there are 2 cabins that the family lives in there as well, which was fine. We had our privacy. We did enjoy the trails to walk our dogs and the direct TV. There is zero Verizon cell service and no WiFi, which again we were ok with. Just making others aware as the description does list WiFi as an amenity.

I am glad you had a good time walking the trails with your dog. Yes, there is still debris from the major construction project on the "junior" cabin which we recently completed, but it will all be gone by summer. The description clearly states that there are four homes at the Wild Winds (two vacation homes) and that "Honeymoon" cabin does not have internet. We are on a waiting list for fibre optic; once that comes to our area, the website will be updated.

Great location.....but
The location of the cabin was great. Very secluded and peaceful. The cabin however was very questionable. The cabin clearly has a mold issue that you can smell. There were cobwebs all over the place and it just seemed dirty. I have 6 kids and a dog, and my house is cleaner. It's just not what you'd expect from a vrbo rental that you pay a cleaning fee for. Not tall person friendly. 6ft doorways. Hit my head several times even with ducking. At the end of the day, it's a cabin in the woods and not a hotel. Owner was very nice! Cabin just needs some attention.

Nature lovers paradise
We stayed at the wild winds for a week. It was a great property very secluded which we love but still very close to a lot of awesome stuff to do. It was a nature lovers paradise had lots of trails in the woods that were beautiful. We went to Torch lake, Lake Michigan and a bunch of other cool beaches all within a hour drive or you can just stay at the cabin and enjoy the beautiful Wequas lake right out your front door. The owner was very professional and great to work with. We will definitely be going back in the future.

NOTING LIKE THE PICTURES☹️
There was no beach like the pictures showed. We never had fire wood, even though we asked. The cabin was what I expected, a cabin, but it was not clean. There was cobwebs, dust, some mouse dropping and you had to use a large bowl to do the dishes because there was no stopper. I never met the host, only his brother(?). The yard was full of junk. The wild geese were being fed were you walked down to the boats and "beach", so you had to walk through goose poop. We had to fix one of the paddle boats to use it. One of the chairs on the balcony was broken. Needless to say, I will not be booking with them again.

We do not currently have a beach due to the high water in northern Michigan (and the pictures reflect that). The lady who was feeding the geese will be gone soon! And sorry about the cobwebs--our regular housekeeper broke her leg, and the substitute we had unfortunately was not thorough. Thanks for letting us know agabout the broken chair--it has been repaired. Once again, sorry things went wrong for you during your stay; the problems have been corrected.

Peaceful
The cabin was exactly as described. It was plenty of room for our party of 7. All essentials were provided. There was plenty of parking for our vehicles. Rocco greeted us upon arrival. One negative was the lack of wi-fi only because one teen needed to finish an online class while we were on vacation but we use a hotspot from other devices to make it work….on the positive, no wi-fi means more quality family time. I wish the window in the room with bunkbeds opened to allow air circulation. Overall my family were fine with the property. It is very peaceful and relaxing. I could have stayed much longer.

There is no internet or phone access. (That can be a blessing or curse.) The lake is peaceful. Rocco was nice. It was too rustic & remote for our needs, as we had intended to work remotely.

Folks who intend to work remotely from the Wild Winds, please check with me first, as we have been promised high-speed fiber-optic internet--but the delivery date is uncertain!! Until then, our internet will be the best available out in the woods, but not matching up with you may be used to. Hopefully we will get the strong internet soon...

very rustic
The cabin was very rustic. Peaceful lake but the road in is dirt and rough. Internet was not available. Kitchen was furnished with most everything and nice to have washer and dryer. Quite and relaxing with wooded paths and lakes. Not for the person looking for high-end accommodations.

So much natural beauty!
There were so many animals to see and enjoy. There are a few additional full time residents around this rental. The other residents have bunny cages and there are some that even roam free. The same residents spread cracked corn on the beach, so there are geese, ducks, and squirrels to watch. The trails are wide, so you can easily walk with your pet and family. We saw numerous wild strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries along these paths. There is a private pond with a canoe that we used all enjoyed. We saw loons, deer, and raccoons on our many walks. I was unable to get my girls to swim, because the water is dark, and they could see fish, lol. We generally stay in very secluded homes away from others, and unfortunately this isn't the perfect rental for that. There are 2-3 full time families across the drive from the rental. They were wonderful, just not as private as others in our group had wished for. The cabin is rustic as described, so don't expect new appliances and cabinets, but it is well stocked and maintained. The king bed upstairs is very firm, and the winding stairs to get there may deter older guests from choosing this room. While we were there, it was very warm, and there were many fans provided that we could disperse as needed to attempt and cool the place down. With only 1 bathroom, it would have been nice to have a curtain separating the shower area from the toilet area so multiples could share the room at once, but that is a very minor detail. The owner and other residents were welcoming and accommodating. I personally loved almost everything about this location. There was quite a bit of project materials around the outbuildings, that weren't a great view, but certainly not a deal breaker. My kids would have preferred a clearer beach area, and my husband would have preferred fewer neighbors. Its impossible to please everyone, and all things considered this property was a success.

Considerations for using as a winter VRBO
The house had adequate sleeping and living space for our group of 7. However, it was drafty so the heat ran constantly. The owners did provide an extra space heater for the bathroom and there were a lot of blankets to snuggle under. The log home could use some TLC. Some of the chinking fell out of the wall while we were there and there were animals in the walls and ceiling (we guess flying squirrels) which were active and noisy at night. We liked having access to the lake and the snowmobile trails weren’t far away.

Rustic adventure with family
We had a really good time here. I knew by the reviews what to expect when it came to the cabin being rustic. My family and I thoroughly enjoyed the character of the cabin. The only real complaint is that the bedrooms on the main floor got really cold at night. When we realized that a wood burning stove heated that section of the house, we fixed the problem by leaving the bedroom doors open. Other than that we had a wonderful time and made great memories here.

Rustic and Interesting Cabin Stay
We stayed at the cabin for a short visit with local family. Rokko and his brother TJ were great at communicating and very helpful. The cabin itself is as described, pretty rustic but obviously a lot of history and a fun property to explore. There was plenty of space for our family of four - could definitely house three couples and a few kids pretty easily. We weren't prepared for the lack of wifi which was a challenge, although both Rokko and TJ mentioned we could come into their home to use if urgent (not ideal so we went into town to a coffee shop for the few key things we needed to do). Not a show stopper if you are looking for an unplugged visit, but with no cell reception (Verizon) and no wifi we were challenged on communication. Other than that, we struggled a bit with the oven getting to temp and new mattresses would do a world of good, but again - rustic. Overall the lack of internet was the biggest challenge for us and likely the listing should be updated to remove that as an amenity. But the place was solid for our needs otherwise and the surroundings were beautiful.

A great time was had!
The property was nice and clean. The owners are great and very welcoming and accommodating. The only issue I had was that I assumed from the listing that we'd be directly on the lake and alone. People live on the property and the cabin rental isn't directly on the lake. They provide fire wood which was amazing! The cabin is nice and has everything you'll need. Lots of fish were caught by my 9 year old son over the weekend including a decent size pike. Would return for another stay.

Very Relaxing
Our overall trip was wonderful! We were greeted by the host, Rokko, when we arrived. We were able to quickly settle in and start our vacation. Our family enjoyed being close to nature. Several families of geese/goslings greeted us in the evenings, the local rabbits were fun to see, as well as many other woodland creatures. We enjoyed camp fires, eating outside, paddle boating, row boating and walking on the trails. The cabin was rustic, full of character and full of history. Rokko was friendly, informative and quick to respond to our needs. The trip left us refreshed and renewed! We will definitely consider returning to Wild Winds in the future.

Prefect if you want to get away from it all.
Had a very nice relaxing time. It’s a cabin in the woods located among other cabins, hiking trails and a beautiful lake. It is rustic, but hey, if I was looking for a hotel I would’ve stayed in one. Rokko was very responsive and accommodating. Had a great time and it was just what I was looking for.

Great Cabin!
My family rented the property for a big birthday weekend. While the weather wasn’t great & we didn’t get use out of the beautiful lake by the property, we still had a great time! The cabin was spacious enough for the 9 of us plus 3 dogs. Everyone loved the trails too! Overall, the cabin wasn’t a 5 star hotel, but is the perfect up north get away. It had everything we needed for our weekend getaway. We’d consider going back for the summer or winter seasons to see what kind of boating or snowmobiling fun we could have then!

This is an important review. The lady indicated to me that she thought the cabin was too rustic. She had no interest in the boats, the water, the trails, the wildlife, the beauty of nature. If you are reading this, and are hesitant about renting a rustic cabin in the woods, please do NOT book this log home. Leave room on our calendar for other folks (the ones who appreciate it and give five-star reviews!). By the way, the pictures are up-to-date.

Full of Fun
This was our second visit at Rokko's cabin. We have always loved the surroundings of this cabin, particularly the lake! We had a lot of fun watching the colors, walking through the trail and especially the fire at night. We will definitely visit this place next summer.

Lake Wequas log cabin
Beautiful surroundings, extremely rustic and very peaceful. Property owner and occupants very friendly. Shallow lakes for row boating and canoeing, not great for fishing. Property cluttered with various assortment of debris. Cabin neglected and in disrepair. The surrounding property has beautiful and well maintained trails. In total, the old cabin has much potential with some love and rehab.

Jeepers Creepers Experience
The place is in a great location but over all it's more so a Jeepers Creepers experience. There are see threw curtains threw out the entire house n no blinds at all. The owner can sit in his house n see everything you do. The bathroom has no blinds. Many animal running around all over is one great thing. Didn't sleep well at all because of the feeling that someone is watching threw the see threw curtains. Owner was very kind to us. Dont believe I'd ever go back tho.

Family get away
This property was awesome if you want to get away and unplug. We did exactly what we wanted to......unwind and relax. Great days and evenings by the fire with swimming, fishing and games. It was a great place to reconnect with family. I loved the fact that everyone wanted to be outside doing activities without cell phones and computers. What a way to reconnect with family. We had an absolutely wonderful time. The owner was great and always helpful if you needed anything. We loved being in the woods by the lake. Will definitely come back if we can (looking forward to it). You know it was a great vacation when no one wanted to leave!!!!!!!

Rustic cabin retreat
We had a fabulous time... plenty of room to move and room for kids to play. The cabin is older with a few modern conveniences- we loved it. If you are looking for out of the busy city stuff this is the place. - if you want the Hilton Inn then do not stay here. There is Lots of water access for fishing and the kids played in the water. And the name of the place is perfect Wild Winds as it is windy through the day and it quiets in the evening. We mostly enjoyed the neighborhood- the cabins are some what close but everyone was so nice and friendly. We all enjoyed the wildlife! Thanks Rokko we had a great time. And thanks to Mike and Tonya they we great folks!

Peaceful and relaxing vacation.
Beautiful location with much relaxation. The sunrise and sunsets were amazing. Really enjoyed being unplugged and family time swimming and by the campfire. Beds were very comfortable and overall accommodations to our satisfaction. Will definitely be back!

Friendly renters, House needed cleaned and upkeep
We initially had a pleasant experience with meeting the owner. He was kind and prompt in responding. Unfortunately the house felt dirty and gross. The bed sheets on one of beds was dirty. We caught 3 mice and were many bugs and scary animal sounds. The beach was flooded. We know that wasn’t the owner’s fault, but that is what we were looking forward to...and wish we had been notified that the vrbo pictures were not accurate. We also were led to believe the house was more private. There were several other houses on the premises. The staff was friendly. The boats were nice.
