I was precooked into a room up some stairs and I had forgotten to tell the booking fellow that I needed a room on the ground level. He very nicely changed the room to a ground floor level and I thanked him. Prior to booking in, I had to stop at 3 other places to find Mary’s Motel and everyone of the receptionists told me it was not a good place to stay. The first thing I asked the fellow at check in was “Is my room clean.” And he assured me it was. NOT. Sheets and pillowcases, towels and facecloths were all grayish (not white and sheets were not pressed in any way - I slept on top of the bed in my own sleeping bed), fridge shelf was filthy, freezer compartment was coated with layers of ice, mold on walls in bathroom (did not shower - yuck), the bedside table lamp was dusty and unplugged, the floor was not clean, etc. I did not feel comfortable with some of the guests staying there, so I put a heavy chair up against the door - could see light under the door. I did leave four sticky notes and attached them to my “key” when I left. I would never stay in this place again, and will tell others not to also. I did mention it to a friend who travels in that region all the time and overnights in Golden, and she told me that she had stayed there once and NEVER AGAIN.
