This is a beautiful property in a great location. Unfortunately, our trip was marred by the owner withholding a large chunk of our security deposit to fix a kitchen table with a pre-existing condition. Upon arrival, we removed the center leaf of the table for our visit so we could be closer to each other. (I thought the whole idea of having a table with removable sections was so that you could choose to remove and replace them as needed). I assumed that if the middle sections were not meant to be removed, there would be a sign or note left. There wasn’t. When the table wouldn’t slide back together properly for whatever reason, I immediately informed the owner and sent a picture. She responded by keeping my security deposit and using it to repair the table. VRBO (I learned) does not really get involved with mediation on these disputes and allowed her to keep my deposit. All she had to do was send them the receipt for the repair. I wasn’t trying to dispute that the repair was necessary, only that it was necessary from any negligence on my part. I have contacted the owner for an explanation but heard nothing back. The bottom line is if you decide to stay at this property, make sure before you open a fridge or a drawer (or turn on a faucet or flush a toilet), make sure that nothing goes wrong with those things or you will be out your security deposit and there won’t a thing you can do or say about it. Doesn’t that sound like a relaxing vacation?!
