Contradictory experience

Malta is an exotic place for me. The hotel is located very near the airport, with about 15 minutes of walk. A taxi ride would be only 5 minutes. But directions are not clear and almost all the buildings were closed and looked all the same so it was rather difficult to find the place. The young attendant at the front desk was kind and polite. But his duty hours were between 6am and 3pm only. That means any one arriving after 3pm needs to follow the clues left on the door to open the gate and the room door and serve oneself. For anyone who does not have a well functioned cell phone with web connection, there seems no way for communication and even no way to get in. There is no supermarket, cafeteria, or any grocery store in the nearby area, absolutely nothing, not even a stray animal. So be sure to have dinner in the downtown or bring enough food with you for the night.

I only stayed one night at T&B but was totally satisfied with my experience. The room was very unique, beautiful Maltese stone walls and character ceilings set a great scene. It was just style that came though, though, as the room delivered on the fundamental: super comfy bed, very clean, dark curtains, great wi-fi as well as good water pressure and plenty of hot water. Given the location 13 mins walk to the airport I expected a louder room but was pleasantly surprised to find it quiet at night. The staff was very friendly and efficient at check-in and breakfast which is always appreciated. While the proximity to the airport is what drew me to T&B the quality and character of the room and the very good staff will bring me back there again when next I get to Malta.

Don’t stay here. The condition of the room does not match what you see online. We arrived and were shown our room. They had left the door open and a rain squall blew water onto the floor, soaking the first 3 feet. We couldn’t get the heater to work initially so went down to the front desk and found they had closed up for the night. It was 4:30 in the afternoon and there was no phone number available to call someone for a mop and to solve the heating problem. Figured the heating out but it was either on or off. Could not set a temperature. We used bathroom towels to mop the floor. The room felt old and not in a good way. Run down and needing a renovation is the best way to describe it. The bed was uncomfortable and the springs squeaked when turning over. The pillows were atrocious. It was like someone shredded a little bit of foam and put it in a pillowcase. No window covering in the bathroom, only a translucent film that did not go to the edge of the glass. Anyone could stand on the walkway outside the window and see anyone showering or using the toilet. The lighting was poor, always straining to see things. The phone was unplugged. The floor was dirty. We can’t figure out how people are giving this place a 10 out of 10???

The room is quaint but very cold. Had to turn on the heater and it took forever to warm up the room. There was not enough hot water for a shower. I had to call management to inquire if there was an issue with the water heater. I was told that each room has its own water heater and if the water started to ran cold, that I should wait 10 mins for the water to heat up again. I stood in the shower all soapy for 15 mins and the water never heated up. Had to finish with a cold shower. My partner had to wait hours to take his shower. Also, I’ve stayed at several hotels in Malta. Each place provide free water bottles. This place wanted to charge you for bottled water and only provided a jar of tap water. No thanks!

The property was quaint and interesting, loved the overall ambience. Rooms were clean and comfortable but we arrived late and had no water. This was eventually sorted in the morning. Modern bathroom with glass window which we, as older people, find offers no privacy!The breakfast was buffet but a bit unorganized. No attention to detail in cleanliness, which was sad because it had really potential to be better.

När jag bokade hotellet stod det att jag skulle få instruktioner kring incheckningen inom 24 timmar från tiden man skulle bo där. Jag fick inget sådant mejl och blev mycket osäker på om jag skulle komma in överhuvudtaget då Receptionen inte är öppen på kvällen. När vi väl kom dit fick man ringa på en klocka för att bli insläppt vilket gick bra, men det var väldigt mycket oro i onödan hela dagen på grund av osäkerheten kring incheckningen. Bra att det skrivs ut i så fall. Nu står det ju fel då det inte går ut något mejl innan alls. Vi bad om frukostpåse då flyget gick innan frukosttiden men fick ingen. Hotellet är mycket fint! Otroligt mysigt med liten pool på innergården. Kan varmt rekommendera stället och det är endast 10 minuters promenad till flygplatsen.

Really enjoyed our stay, even though it was very short. We were between two flights and needed a place close to airport where we could get some rest. I have received details via What’sApp few days in advance and it was very easy to reach, about 15’ walk. Quiet and safe neighbourhood, lovely room and hosts, delicious breakfast. We’ll definitely come back.
