「This is a great way to experience an “authentic” ryokan - it has bathroom facilities but otherwise it’s futon, tatami matting and green tea. But the best feature by far was the ‘ofuro’ the delightful hot bath. A booking gets a guest 50 minutes of calm relaxation. Remember that there are no meals but there are plenty of small local places for dinner and breakfast. Just delightful!」

「This hotel was easily one of the best hotels we stayed in Japan. The hotel rooms have a proper ryokan feel and the hotel staff are the nicest people I have came across in Japan. We didn’t even ask them for a shuttle pick up from our bus stop but a car with a driver was already there They provide free shuttle to and fro Sukurai station which I wish I knew from before. Oh and the views from the rooms are just exquisite. I would recommend this hotel to anyone in a heartbeat. My only regret is that...

「Our first vacation in Japan was concluded by the extraordinary stay at Asahikan. This family run ryokan is one of a kind with a fantastic owner and staff that continues the magic of Japanese hosting culture. This gems hidden in the mountains has been running for over 150 years and we understand why as our stay was absolutely memorable.
We stayed 3 nights with our two 6 years old daughters which almost believed to be in a fairy tale and kept on looking for Totoro their favorite movie. The owner...

「The Shikitei is right on the edge of Nara Park - essentially it is in the park. In terms of position it couldn't be better.
It had all the comforts of a ryokan including a great onsen bath,, and wonderful staff.
I can't recommend it more highly.」

「It’s a really wonderful experience of staying in Nara for one night. The position just next to the subway is convenient enough that we can meander around the city immediately after check in. The staff is friendly and hospitable , he led us to the room with hot match tea, and we got a tea souvenir the next day. The public outside onsen is also the highlight, we enjoy very much with Kasuaga hotel and hope we would visit again soon in the future!」
