Enjoy comfort and relaxation in the Drents Friese Wold

Are you looking for a place where you can truly recharge, or do you want to enjoy some leisure time in the woods?

On the edge of the Drents-Friese Wold National Park, at the lovely De Reeënwissel park in Hoogersmilde, you can do it all. It’s a place where modern comfort and the tranquility of nature come together.

The name “De Wissel” dates back to the past. In nature, a “wissel” is the well-trodden path that roe deer and other wildlife use to travel through the woods. It’s a route of repetition, a place of both movement and tranquility. That’s exactly what we envision with this chalet: your own spot in nature where you can return time and again to leave the daily hustle and bustle behind and recharge.


What makes this retreat special is that it’s completely gas-free and built sustainably. Thanks to the excellent insulation and the wonderful underfloor heating, it’s comfortable here all year round, without compromising on comfort. And with the air conditioning on, you’ll wake up feeling refreshed even after the hottest summer nights.

Living Room and Kitchen
The chalet features a cozy, spacious dining area with a comfortable sofa. The kitchen is equipped with a dishwasher, electric stovetop, spacious refrigerator and freezer, and an oven. Essentials such as salt and pepper, olive oil, coffee and tea, dish towels, and dishwasher tablets are provided.

Bedrooms
The beds are made upon arrival—a real treat. There is one bedroom with a double bed and one bedroom with two single beds.

Bathroom and Towels
The spacious bathroom features a walk-in shower, sink, plenty of cabinet space, a hair dryer, and a towel radiator. Towels are provided.

Garden
You’ll be staying on the largest lot in the park—over 600 square meters—surrounded by groves, trees, and shrubs.


Parking
There is a parking space next to the chalet. The park also has large public parking areas. And a number of charging stations.

Park Facilities
Park de Reeënwissel is a wonderful place with facilities you won’t find just anywhere. For the kids, there’s a fantastic indoor Monkey Town at the park, and the pool is nearby for a refreshing dip. Don’t feel like cooking one day? Then pull up a chair at the restaurant right in the park.

What really makes the park unique is the riding stable. You can even board your own horse here, so you can head straight out from the park onto the endless riding trails through the forest.


Mountain biking, cycling, and hiking
The Green Route from Hoogersmilde to Diever: This route, approximately 23 kilometers long, starts right at the park’s entrance. It’s a challenging route that runs almost entirely on singletrack trails. Although Drenthe seems flat, this route features a surprising number of short climbs and technical turns through the woods.

There’s a bike in the shed; you’re welcome to use it.

Bike Routes
For those who prefer to ride a regular bike or e-bike, there’s an extensive network of bike route junctions.

The Drents-Friese Wold: You’ll cycle through one of the largest contiguous forest areas in the Netherlands.

Oude Willem Loop: A beautiful route that takes you past the restored ponds and heathlands. It’s an area where you can still truly experience the silence.

Drentse Hoofdvaart: You can also cycle in the opposite direction along the canal in Hoogersmilde, where you’ll see the characteristic ribbon-like settlements of Drenthe and learn about the history of the peat diggers.

Hiking Trails

From the chalet, you can walk straight into the forest, where you can choose from more than 130 kilometers of trails.

Hoogersmilde Experience Trail: A unique 2.5-kilometer route that starts right at the Reeënwissel. Ideal for families: along the way, you’ll encounter 10 “interactive exhibits,” including a replica of a Spitfire airplane that children can climb into.

D’ Oldesmildeger: For serious hikers, there are marked trails of 8 and 15.5 kilometers that take you deep into the Drents-Friese Wold, past ponds and dense pine forests.

From history to the TT

This is the perfect base for your adventures. Right from the chalet, you can hike or bike into the vast Drents-Friese Wold, but cultural attractions are also just around the corner:

Appelscha (approx. 7 km): A charming village with outdoor cafes, attractions, and the famous Bosberg Tower.

Diever (approx. 12 km): Once one of the region’s most important “main towns” and now world-famous for its Shakespeare plays. A village that still truly exudes that old Drenthe atmosphere.

Assen (approx. 18 km): The capital of Drenthe is just a short distance away. Ideal for an afternoon of shopping, a visit to the Drents Museum, or, of course, the excitement of the TT Assen.

In short: a wonderful place in a prime location where you can truly take a break and enjoy all the beauty Drenthe has to offer.
