The Great Western Hotel

8/10 Good

"I was quite disappointed upon entering the hotel foyer, and I thought to myself, gosh, it’s very tired. That said, when we entered our room, it was delightful. Everything was beautifully clean and there was so much space that we could just dump our stuff without even unpacking! The bedding was sumptuous and the bed itself was lovely and comfy. Hotels still insist on putting winter duvets on in summer though, so we were too warm at times! The bathroom was quirky but again, beautifully clean. The toilet seat didn’t fit correctly and as we were checking out, I brought it to the hotel receptionist’s attention and she said they’d sort it but I am quite sure that this issue must have been known about as it would have been cleaned before whilst in this position. The view from our window was absolutely stunning - right across Oban harbour and some islands could be seen in the distance. Just beautiful. We spent two nights in this amazingly situated hotel - a couple of hundred yards from the main town, but did not have reason to have any food so cannot comment about this. The gentleman behind the bar was really nice and we had a couple of drinks there on the first night. Prices were not extortionate."

"I had a lovely stay at The Royal Hotel Oban the first room was a bit tired but look past that and appreciate how clean it was bed towel tip top. The second room was very clean also bathroom had been upgraded very nice. Staff were all very helpful but the creme del a creme breakfast a lovely selection of very well prepared food if anyone finds fault could you ask them what they have at home "

The Lodge on the Loch by OYO

"Pulling up and parking at the property was probably a good indication of what to expect. It was very untidy in this area. Reception was good but our room was not what I expected. It was very disappointing and I made this known to the Manager at Reception. He advised this was the room that I booked but I would not have booked a room like this. It was shabby but he had nothing else"

Creag Mhor Lodge

10/10 Excellent

"Staying at Creag Mhor Lodge is like a trip to a 1920's murder mystery novel. I expected Poirot to step into the well-appointed lounge at any minute. Dinner is casual and served in the lounge, which is just so relaxing. The staff is amazing; they even call you by name. Our room was charming and exquisitely comfortable. My spouse and I even enjoyed the twin beds. (Did I mention the 1920's?) Our plans were to hike, hike, hike, but we couldn't resist heading back to the lodge early to sit outside an watch the view of the loch, then curl up with books in the super comfy chairs in our room. My only complaint is that the radiator, against which my bed abutted, turned on at 4:00 am during a heat wave, despite Angela ensuring me she would turn it off. Definitely not a deal breaker, though."
