The check-in instructions were to retrieve the key from the lock box. However, there was no key in the box and the door was locked. We attempted to call, text, and message Vanessa through the app with no response all night. I also reached out to VRBO customer support and they also were not able to contact her.
After over an hour waiting outside in the dark with all of our luggage, the next door neighbor said we could go through their unit and try the lanai door on our unit, which mercifully was unlocked.
Vanessa never reached out all night despite our multiple attempts to contact her. We were on our own. It felt unsafe and neglectful. I am glad no one traveling with children went through what we did.
