We have stayed in a lot of beach houses on Oahu on the North Shore and in Waimanalo and Kailua. This one was the best by far. The beach is one of the best we have experienced anywhere in the world with perfect sand, warm waters and clean waves to body surf. The location of the house is also perfect -- five minute drive to downtown Kailua and on a quieter stretch of beach a five minute walk from Kailua Beach Park. What distinguishes this place from other great houses we have stayed at, however, is the sprawling back yard that fronts the beach. It is even bigger and prettier than the pictures show. Our entire family (6 adults and two girls 10 and 7 yrs old) spent many hours playing badminton, croquet, frisbee, eating dinner or just hanging out with a cocktail under the shady trees. The only tip I would have is to turn on the AC as high as possible when you arrive to cool the house down. The cool air doesn't ever fully reach the kitchen, but after our first day we were fine leaving all the sliding glass doors and windows open in the mornings and evenings and the living room AC on during the day. We would come back to this property in a second and plan to do so. And Kailua is the perfect place for a relaxing week, still with amenities such as Whole Foods and some good restaurants. Mostly though we just got take out and ate at home because we did not want to miss the beautiful evenings.
